    Default Turbo problem

    Hey guys,

I bought an RA23 today with an SR20. Took it for a drive, had a look under the bonnet and noticed blue smoke coming from the turbo (oh shit?). Been reading a bit and I'm thinking its going to need a rebuild? Anyone know if this is right or is it worse?

Thanks, Lance (hoping he hasnt just bought a stuffed turbo).

PS. Lacking in knowledge about turbo's.

Edit: just realised its an ebay turbo...not even going to bother.

it could be something as simple as an oil line having perished and dripping oil on the hot bits. Could be a gasket gone. Try and find out exactly where it's coming from

Im pretty sure it's coming from the join between the body that the oil line goes in to and the exhaust housing.

thatll be your problem then.try pinching it up, and if that doesnt work zap down to enzed or equivilent and get a new line made up, $30-50 dependng on piracy levels. is that the ra23 that was on ebay recently?

Is this the red coloured one with minitubs?

It sounds to me that your oil feed is no longer any good, replace the line and make sure you have the right size restrictor in at the same time (save you killnig the seals in the turbo prematurely)...

Thanks guys, ill be pulling the turbo apart pretty soon so we'll see then.

It is the red one with the minitubs. Plan is to eventually take the best parts from that car and put them in my TA23.

How bad is the shell? I had intentions on doing it the other way around... Buying your car, stripping it, caging it, painting it and using it as a better starting point to swap my stuff into...

I haven't really spent any time looking at the shell, but it looks fine to me. Haven't noticed any rust yet. Main problem is the mods have just been done kinda quick and dodgy.

Also, my other shells already stripped and in at the paint and panel place.
