im after a straight swap, what i wanted to do was buy a 3SGE halfcut, but for the sake of asking does a 3rd Gen go straight in?? i spose if it has the same mounting points no real reason it shouldnt hey?

mounting points are the same, ecu and wiring will be diff for both, but since the xT18x chassis use an intergrated engine and chassis loom and the xT20x series use seperate looms for engine and chassis then gettin a 182 would be slightly easier.
or you could get an aftermarket ecu then just decide which engine you would rather.

hmmm, ultimatly id rather the 3rd gen if its better, but the reason for this is it looks as tohugh ill need to turf my 5SFE in very near future, so funds are very limited, so i guess its the 2nd gen. what exactly is the difference between the 2?? if its nothing huge, i wonder if it would be possible to take whatever it is that makes the 3rd gen better and put it on a 2nd gen??

slightly more aggressive cams in lift and duration
shim under bucket valve actuation insted of shim over like gen2.
not sure if the gen 3 NA heads have 3 angle cut stainless valves like the gen 3 3sgte but i would assume so.
