Default ST162 Wheel Mods and possibly Others

    Heya guyz,
My 1st time postin a new thread on da forumz. I'm Samet, I live in Melbourne, currently 17 studyin at Latrobe University, Ditched skool at da end of year 9, went and did cert4/diploma and advanced diploma in Information Technology in Networking at Tafe previously and hooked up with a mate hu's really into cars during my time at TAFE (Umm510 who's a datsun enthusiast).

Anyway, I own and continously drive an 86 model Toyota Celica SX ST162, and i'm kind of bored with it. I'm now trying to sharpen my skills with it by driving single handedly (God's Hand )

Anyhow, i'm kind of interested in buying a Datsun 240z later on, but my current interest is to make the ST162 a bit more fun to drive.

I've currently and only done one mod and its probably da biggest Rice mod out I've added a pod filter (done jack all difference) waste of time and money.

Now my mate suggested that my 1st real mod should be the wheels of the car, then suspension, springs etc.

Now i'd like to ask, what kind of wheels fit the ST162? i think currently is has 14x6's. Is it possible to fit 15x8's?

And after all that, and i earn a bit more cash, I wanna fit a 3SGTE in there (currently got 3SGE rev 1). I know, illegal to drive turbo charged cars when ure on ure p's, but I wanna make it so the turbo isn't really noticable as in sound and obviously no hooning around, cept for da appropriate places

So Wheels, do 15x8's fit, or am i lucky enough to just fit 15x7's?

btw, da car's manual, i'm one of dose real car drivers

    Thanx a million

i had 15*7s on mine running 205/50r15 yokohama a539 - BEST TYRE! with same offest as stock (+38) and they came to the very edge of the guard at the front and sat in a little at rear. Spacers at rear would look tough or running wider rims however, wider tyres at rear and/or increased track over the front will worsen handling. Its also illegal to run this.

a 16*7 with 215/45/16 seems to be the biggest wheel/tyre combo and best for the st162s. finding a rim this size will be difficult/expensive. Next option is 6/7th gen rims whihc are a 16*6.5

Tyres, a whiteline rear swaybar, king lows and KYB shocks all round, urethane bushes throughout, and a castor/camber kit will make the car handle on rails. You should be able to get the whole lot purchased and installed for around the 2k mark and will be the best mod you could do.

stick with the ge on your p's man.
its just not worth the reaming you will get should you get caught or have an acco.

firsty take that pod off, put the stock box back, and put a k an n highflow in, it will be much better !
    extractors,

some nice 16x7 wheels off a 7th gen celica should not be hard to find.

yeh do0d, if your that serious about your 162, maybe the best thing to do would be to buy a used 3SGTE, spend the time on your P's rebuilding it, how you want it, and once you have your blacks, put it in.
i think someone has a set of 7th gen wheels in the classifieds on here actually

Wouldn't sharing a PCD with Subarus give you a multitude of 16" aftermarket wheel options? Or is the offset wrong?

I have actually done heaps of searching on da pod and the K & N highflow panel filter. Some people say that the highflow panel is better because its shielded from heat in the ORIGINAL box, but some say that pod's better coz out in the open, easier to breathe etc. My pod is properly shielded from engine actually and has got the external air intake goin straight to it so i'm quite happy with it atm. I also used cable ties so its pretty sturdy. 3SGTE i'm quited tempted, i don't really think cops'll pull over an ST162 and just pop the bonnet but den again, i could get rolled and pay da price heaps!

So u's all reckon 15x7's fit da ST162 and reccomend 7th gen celica wheels. But i also wanna know if 15x8's fit?

    Thanx a mill

yeh your right, the offset is right, i just recently got rid of the 16's on my 184, offset is +38 im pretty sure, but yes, there are LOADS of 16's available for ST16/18, i had so much to choose form when i went wheel shopping, st16/18 seem to have the same offset etc: both are 5X100

also have seen a few people running around with WRX wheels on their celica

When they pulled you over, did they ask you to pop the bonnet? If so, how many times have they done so in ure 6 encounters.

And also, what kinds of stuff do they look at and what do they say when they check the engine bay?

7thgen rims can be had cheap enouhg. there was a set for $380 with tyres for sale on the ozcelica site. they are very light too.

    i paid 400 without tyres 2yr ago.

also as said front and rear sway bars will make the most noticeablt difference and then good shokies the most expensive/best being KONI's or bilstein.

other option is to not buy a 3sgte at all and look out for a 4th gen GT4 when your off your P's. think most if not all the handleing mods will swap over too the gt4.

the last few times they havent, they did once, he just had a quick look and shut it again, they checked wheel size, tyre condition, my exhaust (and the commodore they pulled up in front of me they checked his ride height aswell.
    although i agree with u a 162 is a bit unnasssuming
