Where can I buy a new oil sender that will suit the 4AGE block? I've searched around on the net and I can't find anything...

It means that the quantitative stuff that you need to Know about your engine is not accurate, but it has no affect on anything else at all, just what you dream up.
Your engine was manufactured many years ago, and the BEST lube at that time is probably not any better then the worst off the shelf lube that is available today.

    Okay here's an update...

I was able to source an Oil pressure gauge. I screwed it into the block, started the car and immediately there was a spike of pressure....jumped up to about 50psi....but then it dropped right down again to around 4-8psi on idle (which is within the recommended range). I then revved the car to 3000rpm and held it, but there was no change in pressure! It stayed at the same pressure as it was on idle...which is confusing.

Any ideas? Is my Oil pump gone?

Pressure should increase as revs do. Usual rule of thumb is 10psi per 1000rpm but even 7psi per 1000rpm is ok. Check it on the road with the Engine under load to see what Oil pressure you get ?

I can't check it while I'm driving since the gauge screws directly into the block...would it make a difference any way?

Is there any procedure I should take before i see pressure readings? Should I wait for the car to get to operating temperatures so there is pressure build up first? Or should I see pressure straight away regardless?

It would s##t me if it's my oil pump...it was overhauled only 26,000k's ago.

I'm not sure I follow? Or maybe I'm being unclear.

Basically I'm not relying on the gauge in my dash...I'm removing the possibility that it could be the gauge or the sender unit for the gauge.

So I removed the oil pressure sender unit, and directly screwed in an Oil gauge into the block...it is literally a thread and then a gauge dial like this: --O

eek, dam why wasnt it the gauge haha.

its not looking good for mr.oil pump/pressure relief, your lucky its in a corolla becuase you can do it all underneath.
check the pickup pipe and gaskets an al dat.

i think a new genuine pump is $200 odd.

You're telling me! So why would I be seeing pressure at idle and no more pressure when the car revs? I'm just trying to understand how it all works.

I would definately double check everything is in order with the oil cooler sandwich plate. I have the same problem and I suspect mine of leaking and I test drove another AE93 which had oil leaking from the sandwich plate and was reading low on oil pressure too. I don't think the factory oil pressure gauge is that unreliable since I've never seen it read low when and engine was making the right oil pressure.

I'm going to test this by fitting the oil filter straight to the block.

I would think the problem was that you were previously driving around with only 1 litre of oil in the sump !!

You must have had to have starved the bearings etc a few times with that litle amount of oil in it ( Hard cornering etc ) ..

Before you changed your oil when was the last time that you looked at the oil pressure gauge whilst you were driving, it would hazard to guess its been reading low for a while ??

I always noticed the Oil pressure gauge and it was always reading half-way. This whole saga started after the oil change and I noticed the gauge's low reading.

One thing I might mention here as well is that when the gauge was reading half-way it always stayed at that point, didn't get higher with revving the car, etc. The only time I noticed it get higher with revs was when my motor was in it's standard configuration ie. without the turbo, oil cooler relocation and remote oil filter. Does that have any significance?

The filter I removed was a Ryco Z442. The filter I replaced it with was a Drift Z386

Are you suggesting this could be the problem? Hmmm it was the only thing that has changed and different from the previous setup...maybe the other type of filter was on there for a reason...something to do with the remote Oil filter setup maybe? I've already thrown out the old filter...I'm tempted to buy the same Ryco filter and test it

With a remote filter you've got to know which is its inlet and which is its outlet. Did you install it? Do you know that its hoses are on correctly?
Also, I don't think that there is any brand or filter that will make any significant difference unless it doesn't fit and is puking out oil.
