It all depends on your budget i spose.
If you put a 1j in it it would go very fast but you would need to upgrade the brakes and suspension to take that power and speed. Also the car would become front heavy.
A 1ggte might be a better option being lighter and cheaper but there a bit old and harder to upgrade and modify etc.
A four cylinder would be the best option in my opinion. probably turbo as well, 4AG,
3SGTE, 3T or go against the grain with a SR20DET!
A turbo four would be easier to fit in the engine bay and work on so that would be my choice.
    cheers

also dont forget to take into consideration the extra work/cost of fitting a FWD eng and setting it up for RWD.

can be a hassle chasing parts to for the 3s and sometimes the 4AGE rwd setup.

are you doing the work yourself or paying?

no way are they particularly lighter. they are still an iron block with twin turbos.

that said, i'd go any turbo four in it. or 1UZ, hehehehe

I had a 1JZ Corona, RT142, still regret in some ways selling it .. Was a top little car, great performance, actually handled very well, never took it to a track, but felt suprisingly neutral going through corners on the streets ...Was lowered & ran firmer shocks, but nothing ove the top though ..

    Ran a 13.3 at 107 mph on 10 lbs boost & no LSD ..

Don't go the 1UZ, you will be dissapointed in the performance unless you force induction it, then you will have something impressive ..

Well they did actually come out with the 3TGTE in some countries... If you could get all the bits you need or a front cut it would be a fairly straight forward conversion.
