Default 1g-gte misfiring on first few seconds of startup - common?

    Hello,

I've went and seen a lot of GA70's, GZ20's and a Mark II. Most of them would usually misfire on the first few seconds on cold starts, as if they were running on 4 cylinders. I've recently bought a GZ20 which does this too. Even compression, Plugs and leads are good, ISCV is good.

I've been told that all 1g's would do this because the oil pump takes a few seconds to build up pressure.

    Anybody else experienced this?

    Thanks.

oil pressure would have nothing to do with misfires.

missing when cold could be a result of things like: incorrect plug gaps, fowled plugs, low/nil pressure in fuel line, failing dizzi rotor (see recent threads about 1G's dizzi rotors), insulation in leads failing or moisture ingress into lead insulation, faulty sensor in dizzi, etc.

That's what I was thinking too.

I checked the gaps too when the plugs were out.

Had the distributor out too, no condensation but had some carbon buildup on the cap which I cleaned out, didn't help.

Nope, no signs of BHG when I pulled plugs, Plus also I drained the oil and water a week or so ago, checked it and no signs of BHG there.

Nope. If this were the case wouldn't the car idle inconsistently all the time?

    Thanks for the suggestions.

i was led to believe that ignition systems draw the most current or have the highest load when the system is cold.. my pajero did the exact same thing, even after replacing the ignitor, recoed the distributor, new cap, new leads and new plugs.. it would hesistate when cold, but only once.. then it'd go perfectly... i notice that it happens to more 6 cylinder engine that runs a distributor...? my old 4A-G and 3S-G didn't suffer from it...

Hi Vios, I thought too but I had a Gen 3 1g-gte in my previous Soarer that didn't have this problem, but many of the other 1g cars i've seen would hesitate.

Hi, does it make any difference 1) insert key and starts or 2) insert key turn to IGN for a few second (waiting for fuel pump to build presure) then start ?

    maybe an aging battery?

    Hi Auto351.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

    I will try this tommorow.

The Battery is a brand new one, I have tried other batteries too.

    Hi,

Auto351 I tried leaving the car on ignition for a few seconds before turning it on, doesn't help.

Mine hesitates for a sec on cold starts however i wouldn't describe it as a misfire. It's as though some cylinders start a second after the rest.

i know that sounds stupid....but a mates 1G did similar so we assumed it was meant to be that way.
