    Default digital tacho 10k+ RPM

    hey guys

im after a digital tacho that will read up to ~18k rpm for the bike, id like it to be compact and cheap i see jaycar has one that goes to 10k but the bike doesnt make any power till then would it be possible to somehow get it to display to 18k? ie drop a 0 of the back?

    cheers

Jaycar used to have a 5 digit tacho that went to like 30,000rpm or something (it was massive though but did have a display resolution of 1rpm and was accurate to + - 1rpm LOL).

Alternatively is it possible for the tacho to scale the display by 10? (i.e. by using a different dip switch position?)

How many cylinders is your bike and is it a 2 stroke or 4 stroke?

The jaycar tacho doesn't seem to be adjustable enough to scale the signal by 10, since its based on a PIC chip you could reprogram it if you had the hardware...

Mucho cheaper getting an off the shelf solution like OC suggest mate.

yeah, off the shelf is mega expensive,

i dont have anything to re-program chips. any way to alter the signal pre tach such that it would drop the displayed rpm by a factor of 10

You could convert signal into square wave and then scale using jaycar speedo corrector, then feed that into tacho...This gets pricey though.

Hey, when I was at uni we put one of those jaycar tachos on the FSAE car using a CBR600 (F4) engine.
I think there is a mode for 2 stroke or something that allows the tach range to double, the Digi readout will be wrong but the lights come on and were good enough (especially for the price).
Sorry I can't remember the specifics of how to set it up but I remember it being very easy.
We wired the light outputs into some of those super bright LEDS and mounted them in a dash, turned out to be a good cost effective option.
