    Default Easy question? Engine builders

    Hey all,
Have an easy question for the engine rebuilders out there.
Have an 18rg and trying to get the head off.

Not as easy as I first though? Have undone all the bolts but still lack the "off" bit

Any suggestions? Wooden wedge? The engine has siezed but I think that the pistons are free now? So why wont it fall off? Have the cams out too.

Bet I am missing something easy?

    Thanks
    Nathan

Is the engine in the car or out?

Check over, make sure you've undone and removed everything that's necessary. Make sure there aren't any brackets etc. still attached to both the block and the head.

I've never had any trouble removing a head, once everything is undone usually a gentle lever in a suitable place with a small lever is enough to get it unstuck fairly easily.

remove cam sprockets or chain or both. Head bolts, 10 of them. Big screwdriver... plastic hammer...

after the timing cover bits, look around the head to see if there are little butouts to lever from. those bits are safer to stick a screwdriver in.
once you break the "seal" it will come off easily

here is underside of head (shows the two (or 3?) holes to timing cover also). doesn7t look like there are lever points

    Ok engine is out
Timing cover is loose so wouldnt be holding anything on?

Will have another look see if there is a lever point I can use? I think it should just lever off but just wanted to check if I had missed anything obvious to someone else!
    Thanks

Give it some love with a rubber mallet. It will just be that the fibrous head gasket is stuck to both the block and head holding htem together.

If I remember rightly there should be some little tags near the front of the engine, one on the head and one on the block with a slight gap. They are there for you to wedge something in there.
