Default Safe Removal of Chrome Trims RA23

    Hi everyone,
I'm about to strip my RA23 to start prepping the body for painting. Can anyone tell me how to safely remove the chrome trim around the windows, on the doors, and on the bonnet? I'm not sure where the clips are and don't really want to break them if possible. I have tried searching but only found some information regarding a special tool to get the windscreen ones out. Do I need this tool for the others as well or do they have different clips (ie: the door outer seals and the bonnet)?
    Cheers,
    -Paul.

can be done with a flat screw driver, just be care ful, super careful you dont put and dints in the chrome or kink it,

save the metal clips too, they are no longer avalable so i hear

Thanks DQIKST. Are the clips the same for the doors and the windscreen? How do they clip -on? Do I just use some pressure and prise the chrome strip directly away from the base or do I need to move them in a certain direction? Also, is the chrome strip on the bonnet (at the front and underneath) glued on or is it clipped on?
    Cheers,
    -Paul.

The chrome door trims are screwed into place behind the outer pinch weather strip. You will need to remove the door card once the door card is removed wind the window down, using a flat blade screw driver carefully split the outer weather strip from the the chrome trim, you will then need to take the windows out by unscrewing the 2x10mm bolts that hold the window to the window actuator and carefully tilt foward and slide up out of the door. Now you can access the phillip head screws that hold the chrome trim in place, unscrew and lift of. You can now also pull the handle and lock out alot easier while the window is out. Ummm yeah if you need a bit more help I might beable to take some photo's for you. The front and rear screen moulds use the same clips as each other. The Bonnet chrome mould is pushed on so you will need to carefully lever the clips from the underside of the bonnet, in may take a little bit of pressure as it tends to rust a little around the clips. Good Luck

Thanks CelicaBoy, really appreciate the very valuable advice. Those chrome door trims would have had me stumped! Lucky the whole car is being stripped anyway as it seems to be a LOT of trouble to replace them! I'm sure I could have sussed out these things as DQIKST said but my girl keeps nagging me to check it out on here before I ruin more of the car! And replacement parts are becoming so hard to find now. These forums are truly the best thing that has happened to the celica loving community! If I had have known about this site before I sold my RA28 I'd probably still own it today.

I just got them from a local windscreen guy, so they are still available here in oz. I have also seen them down the local rubber store, I am still installing my windcreens at the moment, cost $1.70 - $2 each. Also watch you don't dent your car body wiith screwdriver like I did with mine.

Cool, thanks Rosey. Have just recieved an email from Toyhead saying he's on holiday until th e 31st so won't know until wednesday I guess. Even so, if I can get them locally even at $2 each it would have to be cheaper as I'm sure the postage is going to be about $20-$30 anyway. As promised, will keep the thread up-to-date on current pricing.
I am about to start on the windows today so might take a few piccies of how I went and what happened! Stay tuned....

Unfortunately I did not get to remove the chrome strips yesterday, instead I was stuck on the rear-end (still) and much to my frustration. I am now looking at buying another car already built instead. So my RA23 with running installed good 18RG+W50 and complete 1GGTE W55 conversion (not yet in-car) will be up for sale this week. Since I can't post in the classifieds section, I will probably put it up on Ebay. It will be sad to do this but I'm just finding it too difficult to find enough time to build this thing. I've spent so much time already just gathering parts to bolt the 1G in. I've now got a complete running RA23 in pretty good nick except for a small amount of rust here and there. There's damage to the front passenger guard, a light dent in the passenger door and rear quarter. It's professionally lowered with 14" hotwires and new tyres. It's got an 18RG with Pacemaker Extractors. The engine is good with no smoke, the GBOX and Diff centre are noiseless. Needs a wheel bearing, ball-joint, and bushes for the rear-end. Wouldn't take much to quick-fix the panels, fix or spray over the rust, and get a road-worthy. There are also parts here to replace worn ones but not everything. The 1GGTE is 130,000km and comes with all the ignition parts except loom and computer. The 1GGE mounts are there. It's front winged sump but comes with full mid-rear sump & pickup. I've got a cusion button clutch with 1G fly and pressure plate, 1G bellhousing + fork, 22R bellhousing + Fork, plus the throw-out bearing still on the gbox & 22R bellhousing. I've also got a 3TGTE flywheel. there's a big FMIC, piping, gated boost controller, the list goes on - pretty much all you need to bolt her in and go. Not sure how much but probably 3700 for the lot. Anyone interested? BTW I'm in Brisbane.
    Cheers,
    -Paul.
