I'm still working out what to do about when we go through the other cities. I'm trying to balance actually seeing some people, with not wasting too much time. I need some time to clear my head and actually come up with something. Any ideas?

Haha, see we have to factor in a couple of things for each place.

    Adelaide
    1) Hills run must be done.
    2) We must see bbaacchhyy.

    Melbourne
    1) ???

    Canberra
    1) ???

Consider timeframes, but i'm taking suggestions for the ???

You guys need to organise your itinerary and work out if you want to sight see along the way, or simply B line it?! In my experience - if you plan to drive all day, you'll want a shower and a bed at the end of the night - camping may sound fine, but you'll finish up for the day wishing for a hotel room! I'd also recommend taking it fairly easy distance and time wise - you'll have a lot of inexperienced drivers doing big stints behind the wheel - you'll fight boredom, tiredness, fuel, and passengers - break it up into smaller drives with more stops than one big slog - you'll enjoy it more too!!! If you were to sight see along the way, I'd recommend the following itinerary:

Day 1: Perth to Kalgoorlie - I recommend and use the "Kalgoorlie Overland Motel", and can prolly get you cheap rates there too as a group booking - ask me?!
Day 2: Kalgoorlie to Eucla - never overnighted there (mainly due to less sightseeing and more distance covered), but it looks respectable enough.
Day 3: Eucla to Ceduna - I had it on good advice to stay in the "Ceduna Beach Motel", as they have a lock up compound - so I did! Apparently the locals have a habit of "sharing" everyone's items, if you get my drift?!?
Day 4: Ceduna to Adelaide - you'll feel like a good rest by the time you get to Adelaide - make sure you've organised a room with one of the SA toymodders previously!

How long you choose to stay in Adelaide is not my decision, so lets assume only one night, and lets also assume you're going to melbourne via the Great Ocean Road!

Day 5: Adelaide to Warrnambool - via Mt Gambier, basically alot of driving, but you'll need to move along if you want to to do GOR in the daylight and still get into Melbourne at a decent time.
Day 6: Warrnambool to Melbourne - check your car over before heading out today - you'll need good tyres and equal tyre pressures, good brakes, and the ability to obey the road rules, you're heading into cop territory on the GOR! Again, make sure you've lined up accom at a Vic toymodder's house previously!

How long you choose to stay in Melbourne is again not my call, but in my experience, it won't be long enough! Lets assume one night again?!

Day 7: Melbourne to Canberra - via Hume Hwy. Nice gardens, shame about the social life - hehehe, only joking. Lots to see and do, and my chosen location for killing ST185's! Again, make sure you've arganised accomodation at an ACT Toymodder's house!

How long you choose to stay in Canberra is again not my call, lets assume one night again?!

Day 8: Canberra to Sydney - watch the Traffic - it's horrendous!

Alternate Day 8: Canberra to Sydney - via Kangaroo Valley - longer but the road is just soooooooo much fun!

Wanna B line it then do:

Day 1: Perth to Balladonia - motel rooms are the best you'll find on the Nullabor, and worth their money.
Day 2: Balladonia to Ceduna - alot of distance to cover, you'll leave in darkness, and arrive in darkness too. Ceduna Beach Motel front desk is open til 9:30 for accom - I think?!?
Day 3: Ceduna to Adelaide - easily done in a day
Day 4: Adelaide to Melbourne - inland via Ballarat
Day 5: Melbourne to Sydney - Hume Hwy Baby - all the way

    Alternate B line:

Day 1: Perth to Caiguna - via Hyden to Norseman (300Kms of gravel roads - condition dependant on rain and mine trucks, but I've never had a problem with it, and you'll save nearly 200Km than the Coolgardie route). Caiguna is a bit of a dump, but it's usable, cheaper than Balladonia, and it's also full of interstate truckies.
Day 2: Caiguna to Port Augusta - long day, not for the feint hearted. I use and recommend "The Hotel Flinders", not the cheapest, but clean and comfortable. Beware of Port Augusta cops - they're pricks - worse than Eucla cops!!!
Day 3: Port Augusta to Wagga wagga or Canberra - meet up with the SA boys at Gawler and keep on trucking - it's a long day!
Day 4: Wagga/Canberra to Sydney - don't forget to get "Metro" somewhere too, so you don't stick out like sore thumbs!

With regards to fuel, my recommendations are:

Fill up at Perth, take a jerry can if you can. regardless of the route you take, definately fill up at Shell Norseman, and then next major fill should be Mundrabila - if you can't make it all the way there, simply fill only what you'll need to ge there - the price differences will see you save money this way. if you can't get all the way from Mundrabila to Ceduna, fill at Nullabor again, only what you'll need to get there. Kimba wasn't too bad for fuel, but Port Augusta will be cheaper. Fuel drops dramatically in pric south of Port Augusta into Adelaide - ideally you want to be near empty coming into Adelaide. Also remember there are very few opportunities for 98 out there, but all have 95, and you shouldn't need the extra octane out there, unless you're running big static compressions.

Thanks for that Clint. I'll give it a good going over when I try to work out what the plan is, but your experience has proven spot on as usual. I'll take all that into consideration when I sort out a basic route. The only thing I would like to do is cut a day out of that first section before Adelaide, that will also allow us a day to relax and prep our cars before Toyotafest when we arrive in Sydney.

On a side note, has anyone else decided they want to come, or is it just going to be the 4 cars?

Do the three day B line to Adelaide then. You cannot comfortable get to Adelaide in two days, unless you're on speed and hauling 60+ tonnes - which can also be another good reason for pulling off the road for the night after driving all day - cars lose to trucks!
