Yep, i bought kyle's (6boost) motor which had some rather large custom cams in it, sounded like it had a 6/71 strapped to it.

1jz HKS camshaft / Valve train noise
1jz HKS camshaft / Valve train noise
Ok guys, I have a question regarding valve train noise.
I had my 1jz head ported and polished at the same time I got Brian Crower springs & Ti retainers along with HKS 264's(they were shimmed). Now I'm wondering if any others out there can comment on Valve train noise with larger cams and stronger springs. The OEM valve train is hardly audible, my new setup is quite noisy. Is it normal? or should I get the clearances checked?

i haven't got experience with OHC, but when i went from stock 8mm lift cam to 285deg 11mm lift cam (and fixed the rocker geometry), valve train got quieter
maybe it is an OHC thing
can't hurt to check clearances, but the stronger springs may make any noise issues worse.. as long as it doesn't sound like it is hurting... and doesn't chew out the cam or buckets/shims

Re: 1jz HKS camshaft / Valve train noise
the cams and head shouldnt be shimmed up ,until the head is bolted to the block as the clearences can and will change with a 264 profile it would be 10 on the inlet and 12 for the exhaust so check the base circle and see what you have when its cold

Does it sound like it is only just a few that are making excessive noise, or all 8 12 16 20 24 whatever that sound roughly equal? Either way, they should always be checked on every engine!!
Yes, this shouldn't be any sort of a question or post at all, until the lash/gap/clearances are checked.Originally Posted by 131OWN
