    Default Exhaust hangers

Hi all, i've almost finished making my new 3" exhaust for the Celica.. All that is left is some hangers to hold it up in place.

How many are required? Is there any rule of thumb to follow?

I've planned 2x at the back, one on each side. But do I need some more in middle of car etc?

    Thanks

Im in the process of doing this too Joel.

Are you using some universal hangers? Old hangers? Old rubbers? Old locations?

I have bought a bunch of VT ute/wagon rubber hangers which have 1/2" holes in them, so i and using some 1/2" staino tube to make them all up. What have you done?

    Bit off topic but not?!

I find my ones are not up to task. Subscribing.

I used factory ones with new rubbers, then i bent up some solid round bar and welded it to the exhaust. It works but not perfect.

I use 3 for the side system and add another 3 in the rear for the full system.

The ONLY rubbers to use are the thick quite solid looking diamond shape. They have the holes for bar top/bottom and a coupla smaller dampner holes on the sides.

Solid round bar is the go....just give the ends a slight tweak to help stop the bar slipping out.

Good advice, similar to what we do at work. Use any factory hanger spots you have, if you need to make more than that's fine. Two around anything in the exhaust (cats, mufflers, etc) and one anywhere you think it will move.
The above opinion is just that - my opinion. It is not shared by any business that I am currently or have previously been involved with, nor any of their employee's.

also - if you remove the zorst piping regularly, round-off the ends of the rods - makes slipping off the rubber isolators a lot easier (andless painful if you're doing it by hand.

Yeah i've got the more solid diamond rubbers to use.

When you say use 3 etc, do they have to be in pairs eg, one on each side pulling slightly against each other?

I can use the original hanger locations at the rear of the exhaust, but the others got in the way of trying to get 3" over the diff so if required I might have to weld some new bar to the car.

Thanks for all other suggestions regarding it.. I'll be use to flick the ends up of the bar so they don't slide out too easily.

I must be the only one using rubber isolators and bolting the exhaust to the floor/chassis thread points. Works a treat and means due to nil movement the exhaust can run very close to things and never hits or rubs.

Noise difference inside the car compared to hangers is negligible. I just run two mounts at the rear and one about half way along.

This way just worked better given my space limitations and hatred for knocks and rattles.

    I can take some.

Basically it's mounted to standard point on the underbody where threaded points already exist. The tab off the exhaust has a large hole in it that a rubber isolator sits in, the two halves of the isolator fit together on each side of the tab then a hollow steel dowel goes through the middle of the isolator, a washer on each end, bolt goes through, tighten to underbody.

Easy to fit and remove, never budges.

I like! Wasn't easy getting a 3" exhaust over the diff with room to move. If I could do what you say it'll solve some problems.

That's right Joel, mine sits less than 5mm off the body as it passes over the diff so solid mount meant it could be that high and not have any clanging against the body when it moved. I'll try and remember to take some pics tonight.
