Default A340e Shimming Accumulators for faster shifts

    Hi,

Searched around and didn't find a thread here but if there is one on Toymods do point me to it, so I was wondering what you people think about shimming the accumulators on the A340e to improve shifts. Here is the guide for people who have not come across it :

    http://jkwebdesign.net/lsocbb/viewto...er=asc&start=0

Has anybody carried this out? What have your experiences been and is there any precautions to take that have not been listed in the guide?

The pressure across the whole box is turned up and the person says that you should get a transmission cooler. Is a transmission cooler absolutely necessary for street use only?

    Any other comments are welcome.

    that guide is pretty comprehensive
follow it and you wont go wrong

followed that guide step by step on my a340e
one thing to watch out for is not to tear the valve body gasket when removing the valve body

trans cooler is a must if you're driving hard
also good insurance even if you give it the occasional thrash

    Hi,

What size shims did you use, did you make them yourself or buy them?
How did it feel to drive after the mod, was there a good improvement in acceleration?

Were the shifts harsh, did it chirp into gears?

There was another thread that mentions that there is a hole that you must not block off, have a look at this thread :

    http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...5&page=1&pp=25

That picture above shows that hole, what does he mean when he says do not block it off, wont it be blocked off anyway when the accumulator is put back in?

What size shims did you use, did you make them yourself or buy them? from memory the shim size i used was around 11mm. i used 2 dollar/5cent coins as they fit in perfectly

Were the shifts harsh, did it chirp into gears? havent driven it yet although im expecting/wanting a firm shift

it is impossible to block off the hole unless you put the shims in the wrong spot
you want the shims on the other side of the spring

gbox side (with holes)---spring----shim----accumulator things (silver thing with 2 o-rings)

The MV automatics stage 1 shift kit costs around $400 including a filter kit.

That's what I did since given the work involved I just wanted to be certain it was going to work and I am very happy with the result.

I also fitted an MV automatics high stall converter and for every day day use I would recommend you stick with the stock stall speed.
