I made isolators out of old Whiteline swaybar linkages a while ago for a similar purpose.

use commodore exhaust hangers. they are a 4 hole, diamond shape, bout 30mm thick, (what justen was describing) they are a very heavy duty rubber hanger,
use some 10mm steel bar and bend it to shape in the vice....bash it with a hammer for the hooks that you weld to the pipe/muffler,
i onlly use 1 commodore rubber hanger on my sidepipe, thats all thats holding it from the bottom of the dump pipe....they wont break easily, they also isolate the exhaust from vibrating/moving around alot aswell.
we use them on 90% of aftermarket sports systems,....only reason not to use them is if there is a bit of a space restriction.
