running a car with a dead battery

is it ok to run a car with a dead battery? i seldom use the car and most of the time i drive it is at the drag strip. so once i get it jump started i just rely on the alternator to charge the dead battery and supplying power to the rest of the car. i don't have to worry about the cranking power cause i can jump start it anytime.
i don't want to buy another battery cause i seldom drive it and yet the battery capacity will still decay even i didn't use it for weeks.

you can drive it with a dead battery but seriously batteries are not that expensive i purchased one for my aw11 that a rairly drive now a days due to work and it is always charged, starts first time. it was a middle range battery cost me $170 and has a 30 month full replacement warranty so if it dies take it back for a new one no questions asked. but to answer your question yes its fine to do what your doing if you are happy having to jump start the car everytime lol

Why not just take the battery out of the car when you don't drive it, and have it on a trickle charger? If you seldom drive it except for drags etc, then an extra 5 minutes before and after moving the battery won't tax you too much.

the MSEFI ecu will cope, but some of the cheap wideband controllers tend to reset themselves if your earthing is slightly dodgy and you crank the motor at low voltages (as will happen if jump-starting from a 2nd battery instead of a running car).

Buy the minimum-sized battery that will crank the engine and also a cheap trickle charger as others suggest.

If you feel geeky about it, get a 2-pin anderson connector, wire it in to the car and charger and then add a cutout switch on the battery power supply to the car/starter. That was you park car in garage, pop the bonnet, cutout battery supply to the car and then plug the charger into the anderson connector. Will take less time than it takes to find and crack open a beer.

i'll just disconnect the battery terminal after each drive before put it in storage.. cheers guys..
