the speed sensor (where a cable speedo would plug in?)
That all depends on the vagrancies of the A340 you use. Ive heard of some people having no issues, and others having lots. YMMV.

There are 3 speed sensors on the A341. One is the speedo drive gear for the dash, the others are SP1 and SP2, which are used for shifting and ABS i think too. Commonly the SP2 gets disabled as not all the slipyoke shafts have the hall effect wheel on the shaft to drive it.

That thread sheds more details. Of course all of this can be resolved by converting it to a real gearbox.

The 1JZ shits over the 2JZ for both power *and* torque. Neither are particularly great engines for towing as they both have torque peaks quite high in the rev range, something the VVTi versions fixed.
sorry... yes i did make a muddle of that post..
1jzgte has aprox 80nm more toque then 2jzgte according to wikipedia.
2jzgte (non vti)
206 kW at 5600 rpm
435 Nm (doesnt say at what RPM)
If your planning on a 2jzge conversion, find yourself a jzx91 halfcut. That model 2jz uses a slipyoke, and the wiring is laid out very similar to a mx83.
Turbora28 - I saw your post in my for sale thread. My engine package will be up for sale again in about one month. I just did the timing belt and waterpump aswell.

I think you made a muddle of that post too... keep trying.
Fwiw, as i said above, 2JZGE 138rwkw, 1JZGTE 148rwkw. Same dyno, same day, 15-20mins apart.

Hi,
Geez if that's right I'm glad I went VVTi GTE......186rwkw stock.
Pete
so what about this gearbox trickery..?
ive brought a jzs147 2jz-gte
ive already got a jzx81 auto
am i going to be able to use the auto with it. (i think the kouki aristo may of had a 5speed auto, but this is a zenki so im fairly sure it uses the 4speed.)
Yes you can use the aristo auto. You'll either have to swap the 7m output shaft onto it or get a custom tailshaft made to suit the 3 prong rubber donut.

i dont have an aristo auto box, i have a 1jz jzx81 auto, the same as the old 7m one basically i think. just with the JZ bellhousing.
Then it doesnt have a donut.

Whats wrong with the 1J? all the conversions ive done have been dynoed with 165+rwkw.Originally Posted by takai
For the price difference in the 1/2cuts and the fact that the only extra stuff that really needs to be done with a turbo conversion being an intercooler+piping and fuel pump (you can mate it up with the factory exhaust for the time being) i would definately swing with a 1jzgte.
From personal experience the 2jzgte is a wiring nightmare and changing to slipyoke boxes can make it even moreso, hence why i would recommend a 1jzgte as its the easiest that will provide decent power, economy and be reliable.
If its auto, towing will be a breaze as the converter will allow the engine to provide the right amount of torque you need at the time, but a large oil cooler for the trans will be required for towing car trailers etc.
Cheers

it does seem the 2jz will be a bit more difficult to wire up.. but ill probaly be paying someone to do that.Originally Posted by The Real Roadrunner
