Default GA70 diff compatibility with RT142

    Hi,

I have not found much info on this subject and have been wondering about it.

I have a MA61 diff in pieces and if I am to get it working lsd style i will need a torsen centre $750 and then will need it put back together costing about $150.

When parts hunting I was told that the GA70 was an ozzy delivered supra and there would be more of their diffs around and replacement parts are cheaper from toyota for diff internals etc. As to get my MA61 diff back to oem standard well some parts alone cost $1100 or so and need to come from Japan.

My question is this, could a GA70 supra diff be mated/converted to fit into a RT142 irs corona, at a reasonable cost? Considering I am going to have to spend $900 to get my
MA61 diff working. I am assuming they came in lsd but I could be wrong ? Can any of the internal parts be used in a F series diff ?
Do you think it would easily blow out to over $1000 or could it come in at $500 or so ?
It could be a pointless endeavour as if the tail shaft, and other shafts have to be shorted etc that may blow the costs out straight away.

Any help would be great, I am just thinking of ways to save money.

    Cheers

I think the GA70 Supra has a G series diff. If it had the same size and spline as the Corona F series then maybe you could.

Even then then, they are old diffs and are surely worn beyond resonable use.

I wanted a MA61 LSD too but I couldn't find one, so I just locked mine

Yup, GA70 is G series so you're looking at custom shafts etc, ie far from cheap.

Looks like the F series is the cheaper of the two expensive options

SOME GA70's (or GZ20's) have F-series diffs, but they are very very rare, and not worth chasing.

MA61 diff will usually cost $200 to buy, and $500 to get rebuilt (LSD).
Trutrac centre from the yanks will cost about $1200 to import and have fitted to your current diff.

I've looked into getting a full rebuild for a F series and it was way over $1000, that is getting most parts replaced if it is just the clutches etc.. then it is a bit cheaper, but in my case I would have to source 2nd hand and new parts to get it back to original condition. Not worth it when for the same money you have better options than stock available.
