    Default 18RC "Blow By" issue???

    Hey guys

I seem to have a bit of a issue with my engine it is blowing oil out of the rocker cover breather into the airfilter.

So it is possible (most likely) that the compression is going past the rings and into the sump causing excessive pressure in the oil.

I've taken the rocker cover off and the "gauze" that goes under the cover near the breather is all in good condition

I am buying another daily in a couple of months so is there a temporary fix i can do or is it really a matter of fitting another 18rc in its place

    Cheers luke

PCV valve blocked? That'd be the first thing I'd check if oil was blowing up the breather. Cheap-as comapred to rings etc.

fill it with some thick oil, that will make it a bit better for now....then drive it till it stops.

existing PCV is probably chocked with oil.

i kept an old shitter 18R going by using diesel engine oil that a mate gave me ... no idea of weight but it quietened down the cam-chain-rattle-of-death considerably.

i had a randomly occuring issue with my 18r celica a while ago.

for no apparent reason it started pushing oil out the breathers and into the air filter. then it went through the engine and blew a ridiculous amount of smoke.

never worked out what prompted it to start doing it but i blocked of the rear PCV and left only the front on connected. it seems to have fixed the issue unless you try and pull 2G's on a right-hander

I was reccomended the old steel wool trick by a family friend who is a mechanic

Basicley the steel wool sits behind the gauze (rocker cover breather) and then the factory plate is put back on (the steel wool will still let it breathe and hopefully not let oil through)
