its already running a 600 dollar metal cat.
mate it`s your cat. I had the same problem, would get 8-9psi changed turbos and everything. pulled exhaust off and the cat was completely blocked. 1jz`s run rich and they block cats. Get yourself a metal cat and be done with it or you`ll have the same problems over.![]()

wind the boost up?......keep winding it up everytime it drops away
everything else relevant has been mentioned......havent left a rag in a cooler pipe or anything silly like that?
hahahha, ok guys thanks for all the input, have got dumps off, and cat
All is well, cat is clean as a wistle and turbos are still in good nick, with wastegates working properly, which causes me to now lay blame on the BOV not adjusted correctly or malfunctioning, OR a leak somewhere i still have not found...which is somehow a SMALLER leak when the engine is cold, due to higher boost when the engine hasnt warmed up.

have you taken it for a bit of yippee without the exhaust on to see if it changes at all?

no, as currently it has no tailshaft in it, i snapped my 9th uni joint so getting a better shaft made up.
anyway, i cant test drive it but i am going to check out the impeller side of the turbos in the morning see if they are all farked up at all. this im told could be a reason for it, and wouldnt suprise me, as i have a pod filter hanging under the guard...
on top of that when i get the tailshaft back i will put the stock bov back on and see what happens

you get more boost with colder air don't you? ie before the intake manifold and the turbos heat up the air would be significantly colder, so an engine will always boost more when cold.Originally Posted by 77GZE
id say a turbos shagged.
although you shouldve spotted a wheel in your cat.
very odd.
a boost leak that serious, you should be able to hear it.
Whilst you're waiting around, check your BOV. The procedure for the 2J one is pretty simple:

gday guys, bringing this up agaIN!
Now, things i have checked
the cat is fine, see through it easily. (its a metal cat anyway, not a ceramic one)
i have had the dumps off and all the intake piping - turbos look fine, arent even chipped fins on the intake side, they spin easily, but they barely freespin at all when you you spin them>? the bearings feel fine... so is there a possibility they are a bit stiff at all???
the wastegates are feel as a bird!
the exhaust fins look fine, no damage there
i also made up a boost leak tester, with the pvc end cap and tyre valve...
the only air leaks at 20psi are out of the dipstick hole in hte sump (air goin past rings) when motor is cold, and 1 other tiny tiny barely hear leak on the intake manifold gasket...
to me that would not be sufficient to lose 4.7 psi...
After re-assembling all of this, i wound the boost controller up nearly all the way up and it hits boost cut easy...
so i wound it down again, back to 10psi...
i dissonnected the bov, and still no change.
i got it wound a long way out just to get it to run a constant 14psi,
this problem is really getting annoying now...
i want it to run how it always did...everything seems to lead to the turbos...
looks maybe be decieving??
i dont think the exhaust it blocked...
its only a year old, stainless steel good quality system...unless a muffler has collapsed..but i think i would hear that?

Any tiny boost leak is enough to lose that much boost ! You would be surprised especially when the engine is running and ingesting plenty of boost.
Im guessing you have to deal with the intake leak before continuing ?

so your trying to make it boost when stationary, i would get the tailshaft fixed and take it for a proper drive and then see how much boost you are getting.Originally Posted by 77GZE
I think it's safe to assume after nearly three weeks he got that tailshaft fixed and is back to troubleshooting this one.

faulty boost gauge? seems like u have done nearly everything....
and if u have the stock BOV connected check those lil pipes had them leakin before with similar syptoms
you did check the pcv valve for leakage right?
