    Default w57 Speedo Question

    Afternoon All,

I've got a w57 in my corolla, my mechanic installed an electronic sender and my dash is mechanical. I want to go the mechanical speedo cable route and am curious as to what other part(s) i need. From looking around the interweb there seems to be an adapter/housing that needs to be installed in order to connect a mechanical speedo cable. Is this true? and what is the part number? or am i best off going to a wrecker and getting one from there.

Also my old mechanical speedo cable is stuffed so do i get a new one for the corolla or do i get one from a car that had a w57?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

The mechanical sender will just screw to the speedo where a speedo cable will connect.

Assuming the stock speedo cable is the same thread as cars with factory W series boxes, it will go together.

took the car to a instrument calibration shop and they told me that the gearbox in its current config can only accommodate an electronic speedo sensor. Basically I was told that they took the electronic speedo sensor out and instead of a "ferrel" it was just an empty hole. He also mentioned that there is normally a male thread where the speedo cable would connect up to which is not there.

Just to clarify i found these pics on the web which show what i mean.

Any ideas on the adapter that i need? and where to get it?

    Cheers for any help

    The speedo drive is removable.

    You need something like this:

All you should need to do is pull the speedo drive and assembly out of any W series box which runs a mechanical speedo and bolt it in where the electronic one was as pic 2 shows.
    Cheers Brett.
