OK, so I took the pipe to the local radiator place who sent me to an aluminium fabricator and the best suggestion we could come up with is to simply cut the pipe, put a slight flare in the end and run a rubber hose off it.....
Any thoughts?![]()
Hi all, I'm in the process of fabricating my engine mount brackets to bolt the 1G into my short nose '22.
I have a clearance problem with a water hose on the exhaust side.
To get clearance over the engine mount bolt the engine would need to sit too high.
The pipe is aluminium with a flange where a metal pipe attaches (see pic).
I could cut the pipe and run a rubber hose off it but my main concern there is that the pipe runs behind the exhaust manifold so there is the heat issue.
Secondly, if I cut the pipe I'll have to ensure I flare the end to get a good hold on a rubber hose.
The pipe runs from the point in the bottom circle(see pic) around the exhaust manifold to the rubber hose in the top circle (again see pic).
Was hoping someone might offer some advice![]()
Cheers.

OK so it looks like I've found a solution.
I went to a different fabricator this morning who is going to shorten the down pipe to 25mm and reattach the original flanged turned 60 degrees to the right.
This will allow the second pipe to be connected which will run towards the front of the motor instead of up the the thermostat housing.
All I'll have to do then is connect a suitably shaped rubber hose.
Will post a pic once done.
Cheers.
