my advice is buy one that has already been converted.....they are very cheap, and will save you alot of $$$ for upgrading other things....
not trying to turn you off the idea.......

Ladies and Gents. I'm in Cairns Queensland and I am planning my first Corolla conversion so I thought I would run the genral idea past you all and see if you can give me any tips, advice, pitfalls or other golden pieces of experience.
Basically sourcing a 4AGZE half cut from Brisbane/Gold Coast and want to plonk it into a clean but stock looking 1992-1995 AE93 or similar. As far as I know this conversion has been done a gazillion times so hopefully there will be lots of you folk out there who can share your knowledge and experiences with me. I'm not looking to break any land speed or 1/4 mile records these days. Just want a good reliable and most importantly FUN Corolla to drive every day up the Kuranda range to work.![]()

Been told to make sure I get a body that originally had an injected engine to save expense and hassle with fuel lines, Also been told the engine MUST be of a younger or equal vintage to the body. (though I am not sure whether this means the ACTUAL INDIVIDUAL ENGINE that I buy cant have been manufactured before the car, or just that model of engine ceased being manufactured after the car body I get)....clear as mud???

I am yet to be educated on any potential problems with axles, gearboxes, brakes etc etc. And am a bit challenged when it comes to electrics so any advice there would make me very happy.
I have to tell ya I have built lots of V8's and tough 6's over the last 15 years for mysef and others but it's been a while since I had a toy of my own and I can't remember ever being more excited about what I'll end up with. A couple of people have still advised me not to write off the idea of a Silver top 20v instead.... But I like low down torque and from my (now probably outdated) knowledge, the Supercharger will make power better down low.
Anyway, the post is getting long so I'll let it be for now.
AWESOME site people and thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Hi mate, the GZE is a great engine, as long as you're happy with the factory output. If you're chasing more power than a quick pulley change can give you (about 140fwhp?) (and really, it's heaps for a light street corolla), then you'll have to go turbo anyway.
For a screaming and involving car for the backroads, I'd go the 20v. If you're going to drive around the city a lot as well, I'd go for the GZE. Best bet: MAP sensor GZE. Also, gearbox life might be a problem with the torque of the GZE if you abuse it...but then, rolla boxes are cheap.
