What engine came out? It might make it a bit easier.
hey everyone,
as a lot of you know i'm building an '88 hilux with a 1jzgte out of a jzz30, so far i'm up to the wiring and have spend quite some time reading the translated wiring diagrams of the jzz30, i'm running standard engine, ecu and automatic transmission, i've put alot of time into it so far and i am up to the stage where i need help haha, so i'm hoping you guys and girls will help me out as hop[efully what i've done will help alot of you out too....
where i'm at with the wiring is the 4 plugs on a jzz30 1jzgte engine loom that go into the cabin to power, combination meter, fuel pump etc.... however there are a few wires i dont know how to connect and need some help, i've labeled every wire on the 4 plugs from were they started to were they go but like i said not bein an auto elec some is abit confusing to me, so i hope you can help, also i'm not using A/C or power steering so that eliminates quite a few wires....

hey champ a 22R-E came out of the toyota and the 1jzgte is out of a jzz30 soarer, also if it help i'm modding a digital dash out of a jzz30 into the hilux tooOriginally Posted by PsyCo JZX83
Have you got the body harness diagrams from the hilux?
hey mate yeah i've got the body diagrams, the hilux engine was not fuel injected so it makes it abit hard and also the hilux was originally a manualOriginally Posted by PsyCo JZX83
If it was carby it was a 22R not a 22R-E. I that case I can't help you sorry.
If it was injected it wouldn't have been that hard to work it out but I'm no guru as to how you are going to make it work if it was carby originally. I reckon you will need to make relays to turn on:
Injector Power
Coil/Igniter Power
Having just wired 90% of my own conversion I can promise you factory ecu in a conversion is a PITA. In your case I would ditch the auto and slap on aftermarket management of some description. Be a hole lot simpler. If your dead keen on keeping it auto then whack a T350 or T400 behind it.
Just my 2 cents.
ok now if you are running a standard engine there is no need to use an aftermarket ecu.
if you are using the dash from the donor frontcut alot of the colours should be the same from the engine harness to the plugs from the dash plugs on the new cluster.
toyotas use a common colour for most wires etcc..
coolant gauge, oil light/gauge, alternator light, check engine light, etc..
if you can identify these common wires you will need to run them towards the ecu (f they arnt already)
being that your previous engine was carby you will need to fit and wire a few relays for EFI (injectors, coils etc) FUEL PUMP aka circuit opening relay.
this is a starting point.
hope this hepls abit.

thanks so much for the help so far guys! also like you said turbo ke20, i need to run a tachometric relay to run the fuel pump, sideshow is helping me out with that one.Originally Posted by turbo ke20
ok just a few wires i can recognize i think might help you out.
plug CF1
green/white = stop light input (splice into stop light circuit)
black/yellow = alternator ignition sense wire. (joins to white/red to external reg plug)
black/orange = main ignition supply to ecu. (run through a fuse)
CF2
yellow/green = alternator warning light (goes to dash cluster)
black/white = start input from key (prob goes throught inhibitor switch on the gbox)
yellow = power via 10amp fuse (power suplly to speed sensor)
thats a starting point to get you going.

No need. be a bucketload easier to wire though.Originally Posted by turbo ke20
i'll second that, leaves room for improvement if you can afford it up frontOriginally Posted by PsyCo JZX83
im not disagreing that they arnt easier.
id prefer to wire aftermarket any day, but in this case I think he wants to keep it standard so im helping him out.
Plus if he is prepared to spend a few grand on a haltech, autronic or motec id say go ahead otherwise i wouldnt bother wiring up any other brand.
If he wants a shit cold start and poor fuel economy then go fit ems or microtech.

hey guys, i would fit aftermarket if i'd have the funds for big single turbo etc but at the moment i will be happy just running stock twins and ecu, as there is alot goin on with the rest of the car atm and financially as i am in the process of moving, in saying that justin and i are working on just getting it running for the moment as he knows abit or too haha, but thanks for all your feedback so far! the more the better
