    Default Thermofan Discussion

    Hi all,

I've currently been working on shifting my AC condenser and installing a new rad and I am in need of a good thermofan to fit in my ever decreasing space.

I need a good 10" fan which is as slim as practicable which has the best possible flow. If it's quiet that's a bonus but not critical.

The reason I ask is because I've had a friend use an aftermarket fan before and it didn't work very well and he ended up reverting to a Honda stock fan instead. Since I don't have the space to do this I need a good quality fan which can push some air.

Looking around the best I've found so far is a Davies Craig 10" fan with straight blades. I've read skewed blades are quieter.

If anyone has any advice or experience and would like to share that would be appreciated

^^^ As above, they are quite noisy but work very well. Had twin 12inch ones on the supra and as soon as they came on the temps started dropping quickly. SPAL has a nice slimline range which is great for those with not a lot of clearance between the raditiaor & motor.

Thanks guys, I'll have to have a look around for a dealer. They may end up out of my price range as I was hoping to be around $100 but we'll see.

I bought a sub $100 fan and it would barely blow out a birthday candle, worst purchase.

Davies Craig do the job and are more than $100 for anything bigger than 10", the SPAL curved blade fans are awesome in terms of the CFM they move for their size, a lot more than $100 though.

Skimp on the fan and you'll regret it when you are stuck in traffic on a hot day

I got mine direct from PWR. Were $200 each IIRC so well out of your expected price range.

Clearance wise they were 50mm thick versus BA Falcon which were like 110mm & I had 70mm to pay with.

Yeah I just got back from the local speed shop and they want $228 for the 10" Spal skew blade. Dammit I though maybe $160ish for the Spal. Bloody hell fans are so overpriced, this isn't even the primary fan, it's a pusher for the AC and WTA heat exchanger.

Oh well, I guess I'll start saving then

Oh and am I to assume that this is either a dodgy or just an awesome price (even if it's in the states)...?

my mate and i just installed AUfalcon fans and shroud on his JZX90

unfortunatly due to the lower rad exit pipe being on the side of the radiator instead of at the bottom (ala MA70/GZ20) we had to cut one of the falcon fans in half !!!!!!!

but none the less, the shroud is in tact, one of the fans works fine with a 30amp fuse, and even on sunday (38 degress day) driving in stop start traffic with the aircon ON ! his car would not heat up past 85 degrees with the single AU falcon fan on full bore.

Very VERY impressed with this , and i can only imagine how cool a car would run with the 2 fans running!!!!

fuck davis craig and all that other garbage for JZX90/JZX81/XZ20/XA70

    AU falcon = winner

bang for buck, falcoon fans are a great bet - I paid ~$200 iirc for a shroud + 2 fans, and it was a near perfect fit for ma61 radiator

fyi: 1 10" fan is probably going to struggle to cool your rad unless you fork out big bikkies for a top quality one
