    Default Ignitor Wiring Identification

    hey all i need help

was sold a coil and ignitor, apparently for my smallport.

problem is - were having troubles identifying exactly what the 4 wires correspond to... we have every single wiring diagram and pin out diagram the internet can host in several hours of foruming and googling!

apparently smallport ignitors arent supposed to have 4 wires either... apparently? do i have a camry ignitor or something? or should i stop listening to my mates who say my shit is wrong?

    can anyone confirm this?

    HELP!

can you post up a pic for me? I might be able to work it out.
It's *possible* you have an AE82 ignitor, or a different ignitor altogether.

Post and pic and i'll be able to help.

And yes - smallport ignitors should have a 5-pin oval shaped connector on them. Like this:

the ignitor i have is attatched to the coil, on top, with a bracket, as a whole unit. I will have to post a pic and quote part numbers. I have rung toyota, and was given 2 part numbers for two ignitors on a 4age ae92. One is 8962010120, and the other 8962112010 which is on a bracket on the firewall. Im guesing the 2nd is wot im after, but have no clue what the other ignitor is, toyota couldnt give a location or a use for it. One thing to note, is with the bracketed ignitor, toyota said its an interchangable part with an sv20 camry. . I dont know if this helps you, but im including as much as i can. . Ill have to take pics etc 2nite. . Hope this helps

this may or may not help
    i have a ae82 4age factory setup (unmolested) 1988
    coil part# 90919-02113
    029700-4920 (denso)
    igniter part# 89620-12300 (denso)
the igniter is mounted on top of the coil
wire colours from left to right are-
white pink lbrown lbrown yellow black
the second lbrown going to pos coil and black to neg coil
    ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
this may be a strange question but why are you changing the coil and ignitor
are you trying to rectify a problem or are you converting to 4age
there are some simple ways of testing these items yourself without any special equiptment..just ask how

I think the question is, what type of dissy do you have?
    - 1 tooth wheel on top & 4 tooth below (VAST)
    - 4 tooth wheel on top and 24 tooth below (ESA)

Search for Witzl's post on toyota ignition, has a link to a tech article explaining the difference.

The ignitor will need to match the ECU and dissy. This is due to a difference in, the signals from the dissy going to the ECU first in one case and ignitor first in the other.

I've pulled a couple of AE82 bigports and they've been ESA, with ignitor attached to the coil. On that basis, and having seen that most ae92 dissy's appear to be VAST, I would assume you would want the ignitor attached to the strut tower.

The dissy you should have for your smallport should look like this inside (once the rotor button is pulled off)

You really should get the correct ignitor and coil to match your electronic system. I've pinched them from ST162 and similar 4-cylinder cars before, and they've worked.

thanks for the info, the car is not with me at the moment but i shall check the dizzy. I have been assured that its smallport... but i shall check.

I dont have a part number for my ignitor, the sticker/label appears to have been smudged or worn away? all i can give you is another number writen on there, down the bottom, and in large print "532" and underneath the ignitor, on the ignitor itself, an ink stamp near the wires read "10H 17K" ... hope this helps.... and ive established from part numbers already that the COIL attached to my ignitor is a bigport item PN 90919-02113...

Also ive rung toyota and my ECU did not come up on their system? the Number is 896611-2570... is this import? Or superceeded? or other? one bloke i spoke to said there was a superceeded part number for the AE82 ECU (8962012300-> 8962030210) but the second bloke i spoke to had no idea why my number wasnt on their system and did not know of any superceeded ECU numbers, like i had been told previously.

    any words up?
    thanks heaps guys

    110% correct,
the coil is big port part#
the igniter part# is different. does it have a green round plug at the end of the loom.
(when i work out how to upload some pics i will put some up)
