Default Will a 1J fit into an S12?

I'm tossing up a couple options for my engine conversion..now its not to go into a toyota but it is a Toyota engine..My main reason for considering the 1jz is that I've heard they are really strong engines and quite easy to get power out of and its cheaper than an SR..Its going to be a drift car..My other option is an SR20DET..Its to go into an S12.Will a 1J fit into an S12? Thanks for your help..
    Cheers
    Rob

I'm re-posting this because I didn't get much response to my last topic

Also if someone could tell me how much a 1J weighs and provide me with some measurements that would be much appreciated..and what would need to be done in terms of engine mounts, etc

Anything is possible if you are willing to do whats necessary to make it fit (safely). 1JZ has been successfully inserted into an S13 so if the engine bay is similarly sized to this then it can be done. There will definitely need to be a fair bit of custom work though.

    Looks too short to me...

Move the centre of the firewall back a few inches and you should be fine...

Ok thanks..this may be a noobie question..but how do you move the firewall back? With a hammer? And with the fitting of the 1J..is it longer than it is wide?

DON'T use a hammer to shape the firewall1 Very bad idea. It needs to be properly recessed by someone experience in sheetmetal work. You will also need custom mounts, and piping at the very least and possibly at every point where the 1J "meets" your car both mechanically and electrically.

Best of speaking to an engineer to make sure it's all legal first...

They'll be able to tell you more about the firewall and what else needs to be done...

What are people's general opinions on a conversion such as this?

I'll be fixing it up lookswise to an extent like getting rid of the rust and straightening shit out..but more than anything I wanna get it driftable..its going to be a long project..so engine is a way of..just trying to get an idea of what would be needed to be done and would it fit etc etc

really? so you don7t think that overly massive radiator shroud is taking up most of the engine bay space

get tape measure, go to importer/someone with 1J, measure it, measure engine bay, = answer to first question

crazy? umm... it's not very crazy
if it's what you want then sure, but the engine should be heavier than the 4cyl, AND will have more weight hanging out over the front, so it will upset the balance a bit,

but since it7s for Doriftorz, the handling shouldn't matter too much...

As I said before, an engineer will tell you everything you need to know to get it legal...

Good idea about planning everything first tho... Smartest way to do it...

The conversion sounds like a crazy idea, but best speak to an engineer first.

Yeah, the shroud is huge but just by looking at the sides and the engine itself...
