Default Snapped flywheel bolts - 4age

A combination of an uncalibrated tension wrench and/or, weak bolts and carelessness, has left me with a broken flywheel bolt for my smallport. We have managed to remove the broken bolt.

Now what can i do? does anyone have any laying around? Particularly Adelaide? ASAP>?

Should i ask for genuine toyota, or can i match the bolts at a motor traders. etc provioded they are high tensile steel and exact dimensions? Wreckers even?

furthermore, should i replace just the one, or a whole set of 8, seeing as one broke, i dont want to take a risk with any others...if so, will a wrecker be fine or should i try source brand new?

    thanks guys

on your everyday car its fine to re-use them, on a performance car that is put under alot more loads its a good idea to replace them, tho i have re-used them on m y own car before,

always re-use them on customers car, unless the clutch kit comes with new bolts. (rarely)

You can get genuine, or get 12.8 grade bolts (grade 10) from a local supplier. They won't be a standard item, so you won't get them over the counter. Grade 8.8 bolts (common high-tensile) will probably be fine, but if you can get the best...do it. A few dollars each should cover it, take a sample in and they'll match it for you.

i know theres a toyota wrecker about 20min away from me... they should have them... do you think its worth the gamble with used? i know i SHOULD get new, but if its going to take days and days, i might try the wrecker... i want the car done for my holidays which im halfway through!

Agreed...Can you recommend any suppliers over there? I don't think I know any outside perth, and unless you go to the right place they'll just look at you funny, and sell you a zinc-plated 4.8

Edit: Do you have Coventries Fasteners there? Either way, a supplier should be able to get you 12.9 bolts overnight...

Hang on...with the bolt you removed, was the thread damaged when you removed the bolt?

I agree, I never reuse flywheel bolts. The bolts for my 1GG are about $12 for the set from Toytota.

hmm ok, well i would love to have the car running on the weekend, and have plans for a 2nd hand lightened flywheel in about a month... so someone must know if i can use the 4ac bolts for now, one person said to use one... but wouldnt this be unbalanced.... i thought maybe 4x4ac and 4x4ag bolts,....

    anyone care to elabborate?

if possible, without too much worry, i shall proceed, but will order some bolts anyway... as i shall be using a lighter flywheel in a matter of weeks..

It's not ideal, but at the same time, it's not a huge problem. You'd be amazed at the dodgy shit proper mechanics do, so don't get too caught up over some things. 4 and 4 would be fine, as would 2 and 6 (as long as they were opposite)

Basically...put them in. If it fits, great. if it doesn't...they don't suit.

I pulled apart a rebuilt dodge truck motor (a petrol one, so that's OLD, but only rebuild a few hundred km before teardown) and ALL the flywheel bolts were loose, and fell out as soon as the cluch was off. It was still driveable, so yeah...you could leave 2 bolts out and not really affect anything, especially for a month.

-Disclaimer: I'm NOT saying this is ideal. Just that it's possible.
