you could do a 2jz-gte conversion, or a 1jgz-gte, i know u said 1uz-fe, but havent heard of anybody doing that sort of conversion, only the 1j,2j conversions!

it would be worth looking at some 4wd dedicated forums and seeing toyota 4wd forums, as im sure people would of done 1uz hilux conversions!

    hope that helps a bit

1JZ is the better option hands down.

easier conversion, more power, better towing ability and probly better on fuel.

both have been done many times before so if you have a search thru the members rides area your bound to find something.

    cheers

have towed a lot with the 2jzgte (including some pretty heavy fucking loads) and i reckon you would be better off without turbos if you are building a dedicated tow car.

if i was building a mx83 tow car i would go na-2jz over turbo-2z, and 1uz over all!

Hi Mate, I put one in a 98 2wd hilux And it was pretty straight forward except for the tail shaft and speedo were a bit of a pain with the auto box.the headers need modifying to fit and i cut down the spacer behind the brake booster to move the motor back as far as possible.I ended up machining a hole in the gearbox extension housing to accept the original speedo sender unit and adapted the drive gear out of the 5 speed box to fit on the out put shaft of the auto.it works well.the drive flange on the back of the auto i replaced with one from an auto four runner then i used a 4wd hilux drive shaft with slip joint in the front half of the original drive shaft.my engine was a late celsior one, the leads were marked 98 and it dynod at 220 at the tyres.with a 75 shot of nitrous it made just under 300 and it run a 12.82 at 107 on slicks.on the road it lacks traction big time. hope this makes sense.
    cheers, Alan

    Hey mate,
Was that a vvti motor in your car?
That sounds like a very solid power output for a stock 1uz.... 220 (hp im assuming) thats like 164kw. my old mans stocker put down 127kw or so at toymods dyno day. I know dynos are different - but thats a fair bit (heaps of other stockers around his power)

Nice time tho - good to see someone using some nitrous!!!

    Cheers'

Hi Stew, no it isnt a vvti motor but it must be one of the last non vvti 1uz. it was one with the full plastic cover over the intake.they do make more power than the earlier ones but are not as strong in the bottom end.I have heard of other early ones making that sort of power also and was a bit surprised by my dyno figures.
