Hmmm, VW Golf GTi eh dong?

    I'm same....married, apartment purchased & new job.

I managed to get there this year(I'm SYD Toymods member...), but future, I dunno, have to see what I'm at.

I don't think people should have to justify not being there, it's not like it's compulsary...

It's a fantastic weekend away, if you can make it, awesome, if not, oh well

I'm really hoping I'll be there next year again.

I dont think it is about people having to justify why they werent there. Its more about everyone trying to ramp up the whole economy downturn, job insecurity, getting married, buying a house, etc... instead of just saying they CBF.

All of the above reasons are legit, but you know what, just about everyone is in that position. In my eyes, its pretty simple. You go cos you wanna be there and you find a way to get there, even if the above reasons are present. Or you dont go cos you really couldnt care less.

The truth of the matter is, the more people that dont go each year and the more the total numbers decline, the sooner the show will cease to exist. Its the same for Toyfest, dyno days, etc... Then when there are no more events cos no one CBF going, everyone will start whinging about why ToyNATS, Toyfest, etc arent around anymore.

I'm the first to admit that I'm pretty slack and have had my car on stands with a multitude of engine combo's on the go for the last few years, but I still make sure I go to the Dyno Days and Toyfest and ToyNats even without a car.

Having your car at these events is only a bonus, its the social part of the event thats the highlight.

    TA22 1MZ,

I think its a pretty unfair call to say that everyone ive mentioned CBF going. This core group im talking about has been going to the toynats for many years, without fail, and only in the last year or two has that changed, due to their personal circumstances changing.

I dont know about Glen and Paul... but i know for myself that having just bought my home, im pretty much pouring all my spare cash into that. Its a bit hard to shell out for a weekend away when you are fresh off the back of purchasing your own home.

Oh yeah, and i just got engaged in Feb, and we're having a big engagement party in May thats going to cost me around $3000-4000... not to mention the other $7000 or so that was spent on the ring.....

So yeah, i didnt have the money to go, and my personal priorities have changed in recent years - cars arent no.1 im sorry.

My plan is that one day (hopefully soon) i can afford to get back into my toymods hobby and still have a financially secure life as well.

Dont tell me it's because I CBF..... because thats a pretty harsh call to make from your side of the fence.
    ...... butt scratcher?!

Karl, I get all that mate, I'm not going to get into a competition of who has it the hardest. All I am saying is that we all have some issues going on at the moment.

I think you summed it up the best by saying cars arent no.1 for you anymore and if thats the case, I hope you can get back into it in the near future. You were missed this year as your name popped up on a few occasions

i wasnt trying to go into who has it the hardest, I was just trying to give example that there are some pretty large financial implications (not the stupid GFC!) behind some of the reasons why some of the regulars didnt attend this year.

But yes, cars being a lower priority at the moment is generally the case for all the guys i'm referring to, myself included.

I do still have an RA28 in the garage, and an uber-tractor engine to go into it.... but i now also have a wedding to start saving for. Eeek.
    I'll be back soon though

I don't think anyone needs to justify why they did or didn't come. Hell alot of ppl simply can't come because of family commitments due to Easter.

Those that did go had an awesome time & those that didn't probably still had a great time doing whatever they did instead over easter.

The weekend for me probably only cost about $400 all up which isn't too bad. But I have virtually no expenses so blowing that amount of money doesn't affect me. Someone trying to meet mortgage repayments who isn't sure of their job prospects would probably sit on that money just in case the worst happens.

I must admit I was shocked at the low turnout at the meet point in Sydney compared to 2007 but that didn't affect how awesome the weekend still was.

How long have you been together? Roughly 3 years? That is $2.3K each year you are together... so that would mean Paul would have to spend $18.67K on me...

i meant that when you attend events such as toynats, its always easy to point at those who didnt come and say "lame excuses"..... when you dont necessarily know the finer points of that person's circumstances. I know i've been guilty of it before, and now that ive been in a situation where i couldnt attend, i realise that there can be more to it than excuses.

I know there are heaps of guys (and girls) who are still really active in the toyota scene despite having families, marriages, houses etc etc.... but that's partly due to their personal priorities i would think, as they make sure they put the time and money aside to take part and remain active.

I'll be honest and say that a few years ago, my level of active "toymodding" put me into a pretty deep financial hole, one which i never want to visit again. So now im taking steps to set myself up financially FIRST.... so that i can play cars to my hearts content and never have to worry about the money again.

Like i said - i'll be back. Toyotas, Toymods, and the whole social scene are still very much a part of my life, its just on hold at the moment.

Sorry to let this thread go off topic guys. Please get back to talking about how awesome the weekend was

EDIT - lucida, its been 4 years now. Tell paul to come talk to me when the time comes, we have a very good wholesale jeweller

For the most part... i think the core group is growing up, and doesnt have as much SPARE time and money to put into their toymodding anymore. Come a few years, and some of these guys might come back.

    LOL at growing up.

I've heard that line from many mates over the years, most of whom are under the thumb.

If growing up involves not having hobbies, interests and social events that I enjoy then I'm glad I'm still an immature c#nt and will continue in my ways - I have a fkn ball doing so

Losing interest, changing interests/hobbies or just having a break is normal.

Growing up is an odd call though and a cheap shot a belittling many enthusiasts on here .
