    Hey,
for what it is worth, i spoke to my engineer (who is on the rta list) less than a week ago concerning cages.

The NCOP is not in force in NSW and there is no date set to start.

He ran me through thte rules concerning cages with all the drawings for minimum clearances.

He called and argued and won with the rta about 6 point cages. they were claiming they were not alowed. the regulation says "not recomended for street registered vehicles"

The constraints are very difficult to comply to. the front bars must not impede you vision from a set adjustment on the seat. this means the cage must be different from left to right, because yu dont sit in the middle of the car, your perspective is different.
Also rear vision mirror and sun visor operation must not be affected.
As well as complying to clearance rules. often the roof is within the distance (which is ok, cos it is factory) but cant put in a cage there.

I decided better of it. will go 4 point instead.

    Cheers
    Stew

yah the headspace is a killer (no pun intended), particularly with early corolla coupes.. mayeb the 3X series on are not so bad? even if you put a cage in, maybe a helmet won7t fit in there too!

did you discuss "pillar reinforcement" or reinforcement contained within the original headlining?

any thing i added - reguardless of whether under original lining or not had to meet the clearance rules.

addmittedly i was looking more from an andra approved cage point of view. not from a simple strength thing...

    cheers

If it sits underneath the original envelope of the lining (and the lining is still there) I don't see why it would need *extra* clearance, compared to a factory clearance.
