Easiest/cheapest is pretty much always putting the same motor back in.
And are you sure you don't mean SV20/21 camry?
SV10 had the 2S-C.
Hey guys, just got the good news that my trusty old 5SFE has kicked the bucket, there is oil in the spark plug bores and water in the oil... Ran perfectly everyday up until this morning when it wouldn't start at all due to spark plug #2 being completely immersed in oil...
This has only happened today but the couple of people I have spoken to said a 5SFE might be expensive so I was wondering if a 3SGE will be too hard of a conversion coz I might know of one just sitting around not doing much at all... I have been looking around on here, used the SEARCH function plenty all to no avail, all I've found is that there is a few different generations of 3S engines, any help on which one might be easier conversion or easier/cheaper to find as I need this car back on the road ASAP...

SDV10 has a 5s
I've seen pics of a 3sgte into a 3rd gen Camry, so a 3sge is definately doable
you might run into mounting issues as not all the holes are drilled tapped to suit the rear mount or driveshaft mount, something like that
The spanner in my avatar is actually a 16mm, that's why it's still new
SV20/21 had a the 3sfe
SXV10 had the 5sfe
Just because there is oil in the spark plug tubes means stuff all. Very common. The oil leaks into the tube where they screw into the head unscrew the tubes, clean them up, apply thread sealant and screw them back in.

cruiser is right. c2888 - you almost had it, cos there is also the VDV10 which had the venerable old 3VZ-FE
correct about oil in the tubes also. nearly every 3SFE ive seen has had this.
which generation 3S-GE? the wiring on the gen III's might be a bit different. either way your main problem will be wiring. Also as you have a camry which is '93+, to have an engine that is no older than the car, you would need a gen III. I dont know how critical that is tho, depends on the rules in your state.

Sorry for the confusion guys, Jaemus is correct, I have a 'widebody' Camry... Probably should have just put that to save confusion...Originally Posted by Jaemus
Well got some prices today, a recon engine is just under $3000, whereas a 5S from the wreckers with a 3 month warranty is anywhere from $420 to $790... Also found a 3SGTE half cut for $2000 (ST185)...
Being so close to Christmas I'm thinking about going with IN05NT's advice and stick in another 5S, had it been a different time of year where funds were more readily available I might've had some fun with this...
Thanks for the input everyone...
yeah stick in a used 5S, its not really worth dicking around with
best of luck getting her running!

SV11 has 2s motor..... as do some early SV20/21s....
I have heard of the "widebody" refered to as SDV10 or SK10 anyone know which is the correct term?
SXV10 = 4cyl widebody
VDV10 = 6cyl widebody

yeah
there are a variety of different references to the widebody camry, i suspect one might be for the wagon shape, or something, and others may refer to the Vienta. I dont think many people know because mostly no-one cares
SK10, SDV10, and the only really correct one im aware of - SXV10, all seem to refer to the 5SFE powered 'widebody' camry
anyone know any better?
