4AGZE Rebuild - worth upgrading or not?

Stick a 4AGE throttle body in, or a 3SGE or 3SGTE in if you still want the ECU to control idle (assuming it has the idle solenoid like the AE101)

Just add a decent size 1 to help use up some of the excess fuel.......... Same as I have (and Ferral has too).

Nice write up Terra, but I think getting the standard GZE TB bored out to accept the 55mm valve is a bit easier. Was for me any way. Now a 4AGE TB bored to 60mm......... That is worth while.

Plonka are you saying you can run a bigger afm on the stock 4agze ecu ??? i am running a 4agte setup now with the stock 4agze ecu and afm ands its maxxing out at 130kw atw.. Could you please give me some more information on this mod

Yep, that's what I'm saying .
I thought I'd covered everything that was relevant to applying a bigger AFM above, but anyway .
AFM housing that I use (it's actually from a 2.2ltr Mazda, but is exactly the same design and size as a 3SGTE 1) is 25% bigger in area than a standard 4AGZE.
I swapped the circuit board and wiper arm from the 4AGZE AFM.
Car ran pig rich like this. This is technically the opposite of what you'd expect from a bigger AFM (expected it to run lean), so maybe I'd set the spring tension wrong.
I used the Jaycar Digital Fuel Adjuster to get it to run properly, but any interceptor should be able to tune it.
Playing with the spring tension may get you damn close to where you want to be for idle and cruise conditions.
I don't really know what else to say on the subject. It was a worth while improvement IMO and is still in use on my twin charger set up.
