    Default 7m-ge/6m-ge into ma61

ive been wondering about the cost and effort that would be involed in swaping out the 5m-e and auto box and putting in either a 6/7m-ge and converting it to manual.
I know the motor is almost straight bolt in with the exception of the sump which can be swapped.
But im not so sure on how difficult the electrical side of things would be i dont realy want to consider any other choices of motor since im only going for somthing that will be cheap and easy + get better fuel economy than my current 14L/100km

    thanks in advance

N/A should be somewhat simpler than a GTE swap, the manual swap isnt too difficult if you can raid a wreck of a manual MA61 for bits ie; Master and slave cylinders, line between the two, brake pedal, clutch pedal and box.
The sump isnt a straight swapover with the 5M unit, the oil pickup will need to be modified to fit in the new front sump setup. If you arent comfortable with the doing the wiring yourself, contact sideshow and as long as you have the full engine loom and ECU from your new engine he should be able to get it all wired in and running fairly quickly and at a good price.

The MA61 build thread in my sig shows details of my build up to give you some ideas, although mine is a 7MGTE. Some things will still be the same, but I'd imagine an N/A engine swap should be much simpler

DO a 7mge over a 6mge as you wont find a 6mge ecu and they run hell rich on either the 5mge or a dodgy wired 5me ecu.

At least the 7m retains the factory wiring for it.

Or consider the 2jzge swap which i might add, is leaps and bounds infront of the 6mge. (of which i've owned both in an MA61).

i did read up on the 2jzge but seems to be a fair bit more expensive to do than just a 7m and i would probably need bigger brakes also i would think

I think dong is pointing out that power and reliability will be greater from a stock 2j than from a stock 7M. The 7M swap is far easier and cheaper however. something to think about I guess

7m is cheaper to do yes, but you get the benefit of not buying a possibly stuffed motor (that is almost 10 years older).

The MA61 is underbraked when you put any new engine in it and as such, i would suggest that you upgrade the brakes with either option.

Lol, I actually found that the MA61 was underbraked with an unhealthy 5M in it! Brake upgrade is soooo worth it IMO

What sort of suspension work? Does that include buying an engine as well?

    Thats a pretty tight budget....

what would the cheapest option be for some acceptable brakes something a little cheaper than the skyline/300zx ones

better brake pads would be the cheapest upgrade, some greenstuff pads *might* make the braking system passable as long as you dont want to slow down from high speed in any real hurry. The 300zx option is the cheapest swap that I'm aware of, should be able to do it for under $700 if you shop around for calipers and do most of the work yourself. Believe me, better $700 on brakes than smashing something that owes you $6K+ for want of them

You are going to need, shocks, springs and bushes to make it handle at all.

This will set you back at least $1500.

And for the 300zx brake upgrade you will be looking at almost $1000.

Doesn't leave much room for an engine conversion. And from someone that has been there and done that, do the brakes and suspension first.

should be able to get king springs and some cheapy shocks (I got monroes, cheap as chips) for 600 or so, bushes are worth looking at too if it all feels "sloppy"

Edit - once again, fitting yourself save $$ but I wouldnt want to (and didnt infact) fit the bushes myself!
