    Default Crown mods

    Hi all
My dad just gave me his old 1986 Crown. Its bog stock except for a set of 15in wire spoke rims he stole off my '78 model. I have a few questios about modding it, so here goes:
How much work would be involved in turbocharging the 5M-GE?
What cars would i need to flog parts off to do a manual conversion?
Will the stocko diff handle the bump in power, or can i use a Hilux LSD?
Can you guys suggest a set of 225/55R15s that'll offer more grip tha the cheapo chinese tyres on it now?
And finally, how hard would it be to transplant all this into my '78 model?
    Thanks
    Josh

have a search around the forums mate, there have been many conversions done in a simmilar fashion,

im assuming its a MS112 crown, diff will handle the power,
bolt in a 7mgte motor (can use the original mounts and sump off the 5m)
manual conversion. may need a custom tailshaft and gearbox crossmember, clutch master/slave cylinder and lines (id assume the 86 is auto!)
    wiring,
    fuel pump/s
    intercooler
brake upgrade if you want it to stop

+ all the little bits and pieces that all add up during a conversion.

just buy some decent bridgestone/yoko....any reputable brand road tyre.

search, search and search these forums, you will find ALOT of information on the M series motors.

edit, and whatever your budget is, double it.

Thing is, I wanna be different and boost the 5M so I can drop it in an MA61 without too many RTA hassles. Will the 7M manifolds/ECU/Turbo bolt on?

it will be slower, less reliable and more expensive, is that worth being different?

also there is nothing extra that the RTA would require of you by putting in a 7M over a 5M-GE turbo

There is nothing to gain and much to lose by turbocharging a 5M.

Any pics of the Crown? load them up, there seems to be a lack of MS123 Series 11's on here.

    question is why??

I've done 3 swaps in my MS53 and I wish now i had just spent the money once.

Ever different car the set up goes into the inlet and exhaust will have to fab'd up, plus all types of fuel, water, p/s lines.

If your going to do the crown Inocent has hit the money with the mods required, I'm about to try and put 300rwkw thru my Ms112 diff.

not sure where you'll get a manual pedal box from but can be had, there was a manual Ms122 floating around on here for a while
