Default Redrilling wheel stud holes in hubs/rotors

I've bought a 2nd axle for my car trailer.
It has a slightly larger knurl for the wheel studs where they press into the hub/rotor (they seem to be one piece, I think they're off a Volvo).

Is it a simple job to enlarge the original holes slightly so I can have matching wheel studs all round?
The studs need to be an interference fit.

Can a brake shop do this?

Since you'll need to buy new studs anyway I'd start by pulling out one of the ones that is in their and measuring it up to see if there is a replacement from Nice http://www.niceproducts.com.au/catal...heel/wheel.php that has the correct knurl and thread size.

Otherwise yeah it's simple enough to redrill them but it would be best to do it with a jig of some kind to ensure the stud locations are correct.

if you are just enlarging the original holes you can do this yourself. with a decent drill. I have done this when i replaced the studs for longer ones and the new ones were about 1/2 a millimeter thicker in the splined area where they grab onto the axle. Just make sure they are a tight fit at the knurled or spline part of the stud. hammer them in and the jobs done.

Yeah, I'm just enlarging the existing holes (I think I'll reword that in the original post).
It's more a case of getting common parts as it'd be really awkward having different studs on 2 different axles on the same trailer.
And I seriously doubt I'm going to wear out the brake rotor in the next while, it's still only a trailer.

airfireman1: how did you ensure that the new larger hole was centred & square to the original?

I have a drill press, but realy if you just go up 1 drill size at a time and hold the drill as verticle as possible it will pretty much self centre. I had no problems at all.

thats what i thought about doing with my ma61 hubs, just taking them to a shop and getting them to re-do 5x114.3 and then get some studs, seemed simple and easy!!!

Have a look at the back of the hub and you'll see why thats not possible.

    Start saving for MS65 hubs.

Also, redrilling from 4 stud to 5 can be difficult as it leaves some of the studs close to vacant holes.
I just want to enlarge the existing 5 holes to fit a stud with a larger knurl in.
