eBay. They were made in Adelaide though originally i think. It's a 1990 model.

When i was at VicRoads registering it, a bloke wandered past and asked if i wanted to sell it. They aren't cheap though. I told him i paid $1900 and he said that was a steal.

They're on eBay quite a lot and in the Trading Post. But having said that, i just had a look and can't find one right now. Last year it seemed that there was at least 2 on eBay at any one time.

    $1900!
I paid $1400 for my single axle car trailer that gets the towed car completely off the ground & can legally tow an unregistered vehicle.
Mind you, I've had to spend another $1000 getting the brakes fixed & getting a 2nd axle fitted because with 1 axle it was overloaded
but now it's rated to 1500kg load (if you can find something that heavy with a really short wheelbase )

I do like the idea of these trailers though (as long as you don't munt the car enough that it won't fit no more)

So let me know when you want the machining done to fit the sealed ball bearings then?

Firstly, I fixed the grammar in your post.

Technically you're not supposed to tow unregistered vehicles, but because you put the trailer rego/light-board on the back of the towed car then usually it will block the rego plate (or lack of rego plate ) so it's hard to tell what's registered and what's not. I seriously doubt you'd ever get picked up for it because they're not common enough for Police to know the rules regarding them.
I think the towing capacity of mine is 1000kg. I don't know if that means 1000kg for the towed car, or 1000kg for the part of the towed car supported by the trailer. I was told by the RACV guy at Winton that Eezytow recommends that you not exceed 80km/h but it's as solid as a rock at 110 so i don't think the speed is that much of an issue.

You look at how complicated they are and you'll see why they're more expensive. There's a lot more measuring and precise work involved to make them work.

You should see some of the other types that you can get. They have wheels that steer instead of having the turntable in the middle.

And before you ask... yes you do need the trailer to pivot or steer in some way. You can't rely on the steering wheels of the towed car to allow for cornering. The geometry doesn't work if you think about it.

There's no denying that a full trailer is better in a lot of ways but the tow dollies are good for keeping weight down, easier to store, easier to load (when they fricken work), very minimal load on the towbar (good for lowered cars like mine), nice to tow because they've got a low centre of gravity.

I went down to SKF today and the guy there was more of a salesman than a problem solver type guy. The only thing i really came away with from there was a price for the Nachi twin row angular type bearing.... $95 each from them. He sent me down the road to RBC in Keys Road, Moorabbin.

I spoke to Tim at RBC (whose mate has a 1J Cressida... who hasn't got one these days)... he suggested that a needle roller bearing would take more load than ball bearings and showed me one that had an inner diameter or 10mm and an overall diameter of 22mm. It was only 14mm wide so a 2.5mm spacer would be required to match the existing thickness of the bush. Alternatively, if i could find a way to incorporated a bigger bolt then he could supply a different one that had a 12mm hole, a 26mm overall dia. and was 16mm wide. The bigger needle roller type was rated to take a load of nearly 1 tonne.

The needle roller bearings would be about $12 each and they are a sealed type bearing so they should keep shit out. When i queried this, he said if they were to sit in water then it may find it's way in. Hmmm. Doesn't sound too confident in the sealing abilities.

Part number: NA4900UU (for the smaller one)

Edit: Here's some pics i stole from an eBay ad. Some bloke has them on eBay for US$4.95 each.

Are the needles rated to one tonne at eleventy billion rpm? Your application is quite light really, only lifting max 600kg and that load is shared between at least 3 rollers (on each side, so 6 total) at the lifting point. I buy quite a bit of stuff from the bearing supplies in Cranbourne and he's pretty good on price and he seems to know what he's on about. I'd be tempted to use a 10x30x9mm (IDxODxWidth) standard sealed ball type bearing and then space them to suit.

On the submersion front, again, it's going to depend on the depth, rpm blah blah blah. I wouldn't doubt the integrity of the seals for what you require.

I pay about $15max for them when purchased locally.

search that site and im sure you would find something close, maybe this? http://www.vxb.com/Merchant2/merchan...NGULAR_CONTACT

2 weeks? If yours were never maintained, wd-40 isn't even close to maintained[/I], just divide infinity by 2 weeks to find out the maintenance schedule you'll need and then cut that number in half since they've gotten semi-fucked from neglect.

This site has many pulleys, also IIRC, airplanes with cable brakes will have a really nice one or more on the landing gear - aviation junk yard.

'I've scrapped better.' John stated when asked about the car by the guy with the silver tipped cowboy boots!

He's going to need a figure too because he can't be expected to engage in infinite maintenance. That's the exact thing he's trying to avoid!!

    I don't follow your meaning.
