Someone must know how there struts work?
I have a question regarding TEMS shocks found in Soarers and the like non airbag. There are 4 wires that activate them, any idea how to control them

Are you sure there are only 2 wires and not 4 ?

MZ12 Tems is only two wires I think? My memory is poor
Normal / Sport.

Wilbo and I have been discussing this.
2 wire is most likely just Normal/Sport (ie, 2 settings).
4 wire is most likely a stepper motor with multiple settings. MA70 has 4 wires TEMS.

with the z30 there are 4 or 5 wires even though there are only the two normal/sport settings. if you play with the shaft in damper the motor turns there is a lot of range in it so the normal and sport settings would be just two predetermined points in that range, thats why you also have the diagnostic mode (the so-called trackday setting) that probably turns the stepper further and corresponds to a much stiffer damper.
this is part of the reason why you can make a tems/airbag soarer handle better than a stock non-tems coil sprung one, contrary to popular belief...

I have the 4 wire TEMS with Coils, I'm wondering what is involved in making a independent controller for these shocks

HKS make an aftermarket controller for the MA70 that can probably be adapted.
I'm not sure if anyone else does.

I'll do some research

Would be interesting to see and i dont think it would be difficult, armed with the soarer workshop manual and a spare TT damper or V8 airbag.
When i played around with an airbag strut you could adjust it from pretty much rock solid to so soft it would compress almost under its own weight, so there is a lot of range there
The trick of course if your going to make a controller up is to make sure youre starting with decent dampers in the first place as most of the factory ones in Soarers by now are way past their best

Hi,
When stripping my soarer today, I noticed that there is a little metal box hidden behind the left rear armrest. There was a label on this metal box saying "Absorber Control".
MA70's TEMS box is in the passengers footwell.

fwiw: TEMS is only going to adjust shock absorber compression and rebound rates not ride height
fwiw 2: the MZ12 TEMS rear shocks appear to only have two settings (that I could find with some rudimentary testing) and the motor simply rotates the control blade about 90 degrees to change between the two.
edit: in response to the first post - the 4 wires are so the motor can position the control blade sticking out the top of the shock. I'm guessing the 4-wire jobs are stepping motors and the two wire job is a reversable motor with a limited range of travel.
If someone's interested, I have the control motors from the MZ12 rear TEMS in the workshop somewhere.
