Default Wires going to seatbelt roller, what is it?

    Hi,

After taking a few parts out of my car I noticed wires going to the rollers on my seatbelts, only on the front seat belts not the rear.

The two wires attach to the side of the seatbelt roller where the retractor mechanism is located.
Does anybody know what this is for?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

The problem is I do not have a manual for the GZ20 Soarer, maybe you can take a look for me as you are in Japan

I've been looking through the MK3 Supra manual but cant find anything.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I just tried browsing through some parts on that website, but Only information I can get there is the part numbers and prices.

Surely somebody must know what these wires are for, or maybe this feature is only on z20's.
I cant fiddle with the seat belt re tractor assembly, as these seat belts need to be sold.

Problem is I cant find one for the z20 soarer, this feature doesnt seem to be on the a70 supra as I've been going through the MK3 TSRM.

they dont have seatbelt pre tensioners, so cant be that,

might be seatbelt light on the dash? but i would think that would be on the lock/clasp?

i think it controlls the locking-retraction of the seatbelt.

same thing was in a cefiro that i had to drvie back to melbourne, while driving i noticed that the seatbelt would not retract, it was way too lose.

but later on after stopping for lunch it worked perfectly.

i never worked out what the point of it all was, but it was tied into the auto door locking feature (carjack protection all doors lock when going over like 15kph) it might have done something else (or was supposed to) but all it did was prevent the retract from working, maybe to make it easyer to put your belt on or something?

The original seat belts in S130 crowns have these belts too , When my old MS137 was imported 12 years ago for some reason as a personal import it missed out on new belts( and all other complience items) and hence it had that silly feature of loose belts while driving . It felt dangerous .

So if your parting out your Soarer cause you crashed it then why do you need to know what the wires do?

    Did you buy another one?

Just curious, always like to learn how things work.

After doing some research it looks like thats the only thing it can be, as my seat belt did have problems retracting after I turned the car off. I really see no use for this feature, only an annoyance, but probably one of the standards that all cars in Japan had to comply to. But I dont see any reason why the retractor should ever have to lock.

    Yeah I have,

The sprocket which is on the other side of the retractor which is the part that locks up during an accident, I can understand why that locks during an accident, however I was wondering why the retractor would have to lock.

Maybet the retractor should have to lock because if people play around with it while the car is in motion, such as extending it and pushing it forward to help their boredom during long trips, so its a good feature.

    Thanks.
