Pretty sure C56s have the same Mickey-Mouse starter positions as the C52, so that would make this an E-series box. A C56 shouldn't be much heavier than a C50 either, whereas an E-series is a LOT heavier.
can anyone tell if this is a e58 gearbox or if its a c56
can't find any numbers on it
the spline on the drive shafts are 31mm dia and the rest of the shaft is 30mm.
its a LSD.
i have lifted up a c50 gearbox before with like one hand and this one i stuggle to lift. i'm weak i know![]()
i have a c50 gearbox in my car now took the drive shaft out today because it broke and was going to use the shafts i have for this gearbox because i thought it was a c56 but seems as if its not as the drive shafts i have in my car now are 25mm and all c series gearboxs have the same size drive shaft spines i thought![]()

AE102 - Charlene the Old Faithful, Reborn
JZZ30 - Lexi the Spacecruiser, 1JZGTE>>3SGE. 200rwkw, hunting Skylines and n00bs in SS Commodores
ST162 - Charlie the non-ghey Celica, 3SGE>>4AGE. GOOOOOOOONE
AE82 - Rosie the Bitsa from Hell, 70.8kw atw. Has been converted into garage space and money at last
KE55 - Billie the Beast, sadly missed
That's not a C series, looks to be an E series of some description, possibly an AE92 GTZ box if that mechanical sender is the original. The driveshaft is the same as what's used in the GTZ corolla's with the massive circlip holding the bearing into the brace that bolts to the block.
Yeah, looks like an E58. Pretty much the same setup as my old box, except far more grimy.

definitely E-series box.
I have a picture buried somewhere with the measurements of the LSD CV shaft splines - that will confirm if it genuinely is LSD or not.
The shafts look like LSD to me.
I think the pics are on my old PC though, which is buried under the stairs![]()
...... butt scratcher?!
thanks for or the replys. well i def won't be using this gearbox for a while as i needed a 20v box
the Witzl if do do find those spec's when ever would be great to confirm what the box is for sure thanks very much
will have a viscous lsd, factory in the ae101 gtz e58 gearbox's.
No - they were an option, not all AE101 GTZ models had them. True that most did have LSD gearboxes, but not all did.Originally Posted by IH8TEC

basically in NZ anyway every single one that i've seen has been lsd in the ae101 gtz's (thats alot), from the factory. maybe it's different in aussie, but seems weird as they are all jap cars anyway.
c series dont have the black pan on the side.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
got some more photos of this gearbox as i know what to look for now and confirmed it to be a E58 LSD gearbox. maybe this should be in the FAQ section as mite be good info for someone else.
if i'm wrong about this please tell
LSD SHAFTS MEASURE 31.7mm or 1 1/4 inch ON THE SPLINE
THESE PICTURES ARE OF THE E58
SPLIT SPLINE ON PASSANGERS SIDE OF DIFF, NON-LSD DOESN'T HAVE THIS
HEX BAR THOUGH MIDDLE OF DIFF IN A E SERIES GEARBOX MEANS LSD
