yeah thats cool. all im saying is, if you are going to shorten and taper. do the taper first. cos if you shorten it first you wont have the centre (the hole) in the end of the axle to put in the lathe
Silly, i think your case might still be unique, as i dont know of anyone having that issue.. Well atleast i didnt and i took 10-15mm off each side...

A lathe for the taper - Thats far to high tech. I used the linishing belt on a bench grinder. Lets face it the taper is only to help the axel entry into the centre.Originally Posted by SillyCarS

just make sure there is a radius in there somewhere
EDIT: go easy with the bench grinder they generate a lot of heat and arnt axles heat treated?

Thanks for the input guys, one last thing before putting this to bed.
My axles don't have the 67mm locating collar for the wheels, is this going to be a problem & have any of you had problems Engineering your cars?
