Default ra23 /28 Diffs - what else has same diff?

i know the RA23 and 28 diffs are the same - is there anything else - TA models?

I need a RA 23 or 28 diff for a conversion and have been offered a TA 23 just wondering if they are the same?

Both RA23 and Ta23 diffs should be T-series and interchangable. I think it was only some of the TA22s that got the D-series diffs. The only thing you will have to check is the ratios. Autos and manuals had different ratios in some models I believe.

TA22 late series, and TA23 are both the same as the RA23 and RA28.

It was very rare to get the different ratios. Check the build plate of the donor car, and in the Trans/Axle section, it should say something like:
    W50/T292
    T50/T292
    A30/T292
    W40/T292

The T292 part is the important one. The 29 indicates it is the normal 4.1 ratio. The final 2 means it is a 2 pinion open centre (povo spec)

I've been told the RA23 has a larger axle bearing? Would be keen to confirm that if anyone knows.

    Rosie,

What diff have you chosen just out of interest? F series, Volvo, Commodore?

External mounting and dimensions are the same.

Ta23 has larger bearings also than TA22,had first hand experance with this.

But the center is always going to fail first

the axle bearings are a different size in TA22's they have a smaller diameter then the RA series and TA23 however this won't make much difference if your changing complete diffs. they hold together well enough and both take similar punishment before breaking. The centre usually breaks first anyway and yes you can interchange these two from memory but it's probably not advised.
