have you tried an instrument specialist for the tach ? they would more than likely sort it out for you. get it going first i reckon. and bugger the exhaust, drop in some fluids and start the sucker !
it works on pulses from the ign system and as long as they are the same then no worries however, there are 2 more cylinders, ask the auto elec whether he modified the tach for a 6 cyl

You could try to see if a camry tacho will fit into your dash. Just take it all off carefully and you'll be able see if it can be interchanged
mmm yeah that sounds like the way to go, just pull a camry tach mechanism and retrofit
just so happens that i took the instrument cluster out of the camry when i pulled it apart......
so if all else fails this will be what i will more then likely end up doin....... i dont really want to go with an aftermarket gauge....... but if i have to,,,, i have too.......
will have to check to see if the sweep of the needle is similar to that of the celica for this to work though right?

You would ideally swap the face of the gauge over too, if it's approximately the same shape.
i swapped the camry tacho mechanism into my SW20. the faces are slightly different so mine shows more rev's than im actually doing (about 100rpm more at 1000 indicated and 800-900rpm more at 7000 indicated)
but it should work better than NOT doing it

I hope you took a photo of yourself standing in the empty engine bay.
No conversion is complete without this photo.
Very well.
You may proceed.
engine is wired ...... exhaust y-pipe is in the process then almost done..............
i have also designed a new engine mount as i am not comfortable with the current one........ it is good to hold motor but stress's from running may cause some dramas.....
will keep posting with updates and any pics i can take............
i havent seen my celica for over 2 months so keen to check out all the changes...........
