pretty sure my flywheel is a 4m jobie. if not its 5m and it fits. it is smaller in diameter than the 7m item though but the starter still works jsut fine.
hey guys,
just looking for some confimation.......
the 4m sump/pickup will fit a 7m? (been told it will)
the clutch and flywheel of the 4m, will it fit the 7m?, and is the clutch spline the same as a W55/6/7/8 (as thats the box i'll be using...) and will it still engage the starter motor?
cheers guys!

yes to all I'm prety sure
i'm running 4M stuff on my 7M in the wagon as in the sump pick up etc.
However as andrew said 7M fly wheel has a larger clutch surface

did the sump and pickup bolt on, no dramas at all?
no dramas at all from memory. They are all "M"
I used the 7M pump with a modified pick up just cause i thought the pump would of been a bit fresher, the sump no worries, and from what I've had them all apart I don't think you'll have any issues.

Just wanted to check if you are looking at putting a 7M-GTE into one of your coupes instead of a 1UZ?
Any reason why would wouldnt want to run the front sump from a 7MGE or does it put the pan in the wrong spot? (i know you will get it perfect with the 4M one but most people are throwing away their 7Ms).
Would still require modification to the pickup as far as i recall.
Also, why would you be using a 4M flywheel if there are factory parts available to suit a 7M/W5x or just trying to use what you already have?
contemplating rebuilding the 7mGE in our cressy for the mx23.... (as no one wants to buy the whole car)
reason for the 4m fly/clutch is i will be replacing the clutch on the 4m as it doesnt have much left.....so would be good if i can resuse it on the 7m......
front sump wont work, the chassi is built around a mid/rear type sump, no room upfront without major cutting.
A stock replacement 4M clutch won't hold a 7MGE for more than a few months.
So if you do get a new 4M clutch, be sure to get an uprated/heavy duty one.

pm me what you got then stitty!

Blake, just check the spline of the clutch on your W57/58, there is something niggling in the back of the old brain box.Getting too friggin old, done too many clutch changes, but well worth checking the spline fit anytime you do a clutch plate change.
cheers Chuck.
