Default Fuel light staying on after filling up

My fuel light came on yesterday (as they do when you're low on fuel ), however when I filled up I was surprised the light didn't go back out. The gauge reads full so I would think it's not a sender issue?

I'm assuming it's either dash or fuel sender related but I'm not sure how the fuel light's work exactly, so if anyone can point me in the right direction to start checking stuff that would be great! The car is an ST162 Series 2.

Not sure if things have changed over the years but the MA45 supra had two separate floats in the fuel tank mounted together. One for the fuel gauge and another for the fuel light. If this is still the case it may be that either the float for the fuel gauge is just stuck down or the float has sprung a leak and filled with fuel. At a guess I would say it is just stuck and if you have an access panel in the boot you could either try giving the tank a couple of thumps around the area the sensor is mounted or pull out the sensor assembly and inspect for free movement.

Low fuel light is usually a separate sensor hanging off the some probe into the fuel.

Check for a broken wire or something on that for starters. Or even if its fallen off the wire & is sitting at the bottom of the tank.

My ae92 uses a float for the level, and a sensor at a fixed height for low fuel level indication. I believe it uses resistance as a result of the sensor getting hot when fuel is not touching it/cooling it to turn the light on.
