    Default Cusco MZ vs RZ

    Hi Peoples,
I'm looking at buying an LSD for the beast. I like the look of the cusco's particularly that i can choose a 1.5 way if i want. From what i can tell the RZ units have less initial torque than the MZ.

What are peoples thoughts? This is a weekend only car that will be used for some club level motorsport and the occasional blat in the twisties. I have a locked diff in the car at the moment so a higher initial torque doesn't scare me.

i asked David at AJPS a similar question last week. his reply was :

    LSDs -

Cusco make 2 types of LSD that i believe at the best available for your application.

MZ - is the cheaper diff, it has most of the features of the RS lsd. 10 plates per side. Suited better to drift/high power. Fully rebuildable.

RS - the flagship lsd shares all the same parts are the MZ but has springs which help in a number of ways.

Initial torque, smoothness/progressiveness in reaching full locking point, also makes it last longer.

Basically the cusco rep that came out from japan explained it like this

"MZ is like 50 cent coin, but the RS is like 20 cent coin, customers who want the best will buy the RS"

    in broken japlish.

some funny things come from AJPS

    http://www.cusco.co.jp/en/parts_prod...rs_typemz.html
MZ = initial torque/friction force set by metal cone springs
RS = set by springs = lower initial force = the force is set bu the amount of torque being put into the LSD

ie MZ acts more like a tight LSD, or more like a locker initially..
the RS is more progressive, and is less likely to spin inside wheel when you are pedalling..

ie, if you want a power induced locker for both tyres to spin for dorifto, then MZ.
if you want traction, and neither tyre to spin and you can control your right foot, then RS

then again, once the pinion thingy is pushing against the plates, then the angle of the ramp is far more important, as you are no longer on the pre-load....
