go and talk to a suspension shop. if money is no issue, just go and buy off the shelf Bilsteins or Ohlins.

    yes ae86 coilovers will fit.

    rear shocks/springs are the same.

front is different. you will need to reuse the ae71 strut tops. you will also need ae86 steering arms as they are a different bolt pattern to ae71.

i wouldnt recommend those cheap ebay coilovers D2/G4 racing logic etc or variation.

also if you have like a traditional coilover for the rear you need to reenfoce the mount on the diff and the chassis as they bolt in whre the shock used to go, hence its not designed to carry the cars weight.

Not so, I've got AE86 ones in my AE71.. the thing they do is to give you more castor, which may or may not be beneficial depending on the application of the car.
I want to do your engine conversion wiring for you, PM me.

the AE71 tops give you more castor than the AE86 ones so why would you change them?

im yet to find a time where less castor is better, if you think of one let me know.

    cheers

    uhhhhhhhhh....

since I'm a "new" AE72 owner (1983 model) I've been told that in 1983... they ARE the SAME as an AE86! This isn't the same as earlier xE7x models... only 1983

Have I been told something inaccurately????

I'd recommend the GReddy suspension kit... because it is a kit and seems to work rather well.

You could always build something... HTS are available(short stroke and longer short stroke) a set of TRD... or even custom made springs....

DON'T forget the BUSHINGS! TRD high density rubber are disappearing...(they'll take the AE86 bushings) Cusco has a set of high density rubber bushings if needed

Now if your AE72 is anything like our late model TE72's over here, you'll have better struts but they still wont be identical to AE86 ones. They'll probably run the same shock diameter (much better than our AE71 or KE70) but have a different brake setup than an AE86.

GReddy kit is like the holy grail of AE86/E7 suspension, if you have the money, go for it.

i wouldnt bother spending the money for TRD or cusco bushings..

i got some of ebay USA, i think they are call prothaine or something, they seem to be very good quality, everything in the kit fitted well with the exception of the new d-links for the front swayabr, ii how ever re-used the old ones with the new bushes in them.

coilovers arnt really that nessesay, a set of correct rate springs with good shocks will make most people smile largely!

by this i mean king springs and monro shocks are not the answer...
