Exactly, as soon as i hit boost it starts misfiring and almost start going backwards. It's fine when the battery is fully charged, but as soon as it looses its power the car doesn't fire properly, windscreen wipers took 45 seconds to cross half my windscreen (lol) and my lights could barely light the reflective squares on the road.
Should have a new alternator today, do they normally fail without warning?

Yep, Sounds like your alternator has burned out or getting close. If you smell the alternator when cold and it has a strong electrical burning sort of smell then it wont be long until it sizzles up! All 1geu and 1ggeu ones will fit up as well. If your car has done 180-200ks then it is due to recondition or replace it.
