    Unhappy Camry not starting

Hi We have a problem with the electrics on a 91 camry executive
My nephew was driving the car and the alternator jammed. They freed it up and took it back to my brothers place.
They took the alternator of and replaced it and they cannot get it going again.
We have changed fuses and the starter motor but still no start.
There is no power at the alternator.
Can it be a condensor that goes on the distributor or the igniter mechanism
We are out on a farm and it is unregistered so we have no way of getting it into an auto electrician.
We are at our wits end to work out what the problem is. It is probably very simple.
    Many thanks

chekc that there is voltage on the big cable from the battery to the alternator.

if not then that cable has either a fuse (one of the big ones) or a fusible link (in the wire itself somewhere) that has died..

    is anythign else getting power?

Whats the battery like ?? Does it still crank over ?? Check voltage at the battery when cranking with a multimeter, check the power directly off the battery posts & also off the terminals .. It can often can be a muck build up between the termianals & the battery posts as the cause for a voltage drop ..

Check the three fuses on the battery terminal with a multimeter on either side, dont trust your eyesight when it comes to fuses. Get your multimeter and test the power across the battery terminals. You shoud get a +12 v reading. Take the probe from the negative terminal and put it on a clean part of the engine block, you should get the same reading, if not you have an earthing problem.
Test the three fuses especially the 80a alternator one by keeping the black probe on the negative terminal and put the red one on both sides of the fuses, if you cant do this then pull them out and test them for continuity.
Finally if the fuses are good and you dont have the same +12v reading at the big post on the alternator then there is a problem between the alternator post and the fuse. If you do not have a mulitmeter or a test light handy make a getto speck one by getting a12 volt bulb with two pieces of wire attached, one to the negative side and the other to the positive. Just be carefull not to short anything.
Getting your missus to help bleed the brakes isn't everybody's idea of quality time.
