Altenator pins to where? (JZ with spark issue)

Mate of mine is having weirdo spark issues with his 1JZ. It runs a microtec with its own igniter, another mate has the same thing setup by the same guy so its unlikely the problem is the microtec.

Engine misses on load but drives fine for cruising/idling/etc. Its not the spark blowing out due to too high a gap, we've tried all sorts of plugs down to a 0.6mm gap. Alternator has been swapped with a known working one, symptoms are the same.

If thats not it I already suggested it might be the coils but he reckons thats not it.

Next on the list to check is whether his alternator is hooked up properly, as the wiring would have been touched when he did the engine conversion. Its got 3 pins as well as the chunky battery cable, anyone know what the pins are supposed to go to?

Any other ideas?

try this [same reply to your other post]
3 pin round plug with 2 vertical pins beside each other above a horizontal pin in a "U" arrangement.
looking at the plug w/ clip at bottom. alternator plug [obviously reverse on the alternator]
top left is Ign [IG - Black/Yellow wire] +12V on Ign
top right is CHG light [L - yellow/white wire] must have load or WILL NOT charge
bottom horizontal pin is Voltage sense [S -white wire] +12V from battery via charging system.
Wires [from above] white wire is below

the large post marked B+ connects direct to battery

got nothin' on your microtec tho'

The warning light is just that a warning light. If it is not there the alternator will still charge ok but you will not have a warning light.Even if your warning light goes out this does not mean the alternator is charging at the correct voltage. Some systems may need a bit of a rev to get them going though. Later models with computer control motors have a diode in the charge light warning circuit. If this diode is not there when you transplant a later model ecu controlled motor into your older Toyota the 12v signal from the alternator to the warning light may feed enough electricity back to the ecu to keep your motor running. This is why you see the warning light come on when you switch off the ignition. A little annoying.
