Default 4AGE wont turn over. Help!

ok, heres the basics, i have just done a 4AGE conversion on my KE35, i got it all out of a KE36 panel van, that was running and driving fine before i gutted it.
Sombody had done all the hard work of splicing the looms.
i used the entire loom out of the engine bay and from under the dash.
AFAIK all the wires are plugged back to where they were when the setup was in the panny.
now with it almost all wired up, we wanted to see if it turned over....it didnt.
the lights and indicators are all good, but it just makes a "click" and the "brake" light on the dash lights up. whats going on? it might be something stupid, dont assume ive checked everything, its the first conversion ive done, and i havnt worked on efi cars much at all, so even if its obvious to you, mention it, i really dont want to fork out to tow it to an auto elec.
also, if anyone is in my area and thinks they can help, let me know! therell be beer in it for you.
    Thanks.
    Chris.

bear in mind that engine not turning over has nothing to do with any of the new wiring, and nothing to do with EFI.

the wiring that was originally attatched to your car does this, you just unbolt/disconnect the wires that go to your starter motor and reconnect them when you put the box/engine in.

Elaborate on "entire loom...under the dash"

Has the wiring from your ingnition barrel to the aforementioned starter motor wiring been touched?

Crank it from under the bonnet

ok, to elaborate, the we removed the whole dash, and every wire from under the dash.
we took the whole loom from under the hood out with the engine/box, we just un bolted everything that was screwed to the bay/things in the bay, and it came out with the engine, we only really unplugged the wires that went through the firewall, and a few other things, like thermo, reverse light, etc.
we DID have the original ignition barrel, but the plug wouldnt fit so it now has the barrel from the doner car.
90% of the wiring is from th doner.
the batt is a little flat but we tried a jump start and it didnt work.

    get out multimeter.

    start from the basics.

when you turn the key, does the starter solenoid get power? does the main (fat) wire to the starter have power.

    work back from there

Gazing into my crystal ball, I'd be looking for an earthing problem. It's usually something simple like that.

Have you got a check engine light? If not, you haven't got power (or earth) to the ECU...

    Do as oldcorollas said.
Check if you have power at the battery cable on the starter, then check if you get power to the switch wire (small wire) on the starter when the key is in the start position.
Get a jump wire and put power onto the switch wire and see if it cranks. This will tell you if it is in the starter or the wiring from the key.
Is there an earth cable to the body as well.

Did you accidentally bang the starter solenoid when moving the engine around? Even a slight bang can stop the brushes inside from turning.

great help everyone, i have been working on it today, it cranks when i touch the terminals with a screwdriver, so i assume it must be the switch wiring.
where would i find the starter solenoid?

Its a large silver-coloured (usually) cylinder about the size of a can of flyspray on the back of the engine (assuming your 4age is fwd) underneath all of the intake gear.

The solenoid is the part of the starter motor that the wires connect to.
If it cranks when you put power to the switch wire then it is a problem with the wiring.
If you need a wiring diagram for the KE35, click on the link in my sig and go to the "wiring diagrams" page. If you right click on the links on that page and click on "save target as" you can save them and print them out.
From what I have read you are using the whole dash and engine harnesses from the KE36.
Try to trace the switch wire back from the starter to the switch to see where it goes. If the KE36 was originally an auto then the starter wire would have gone through an inhibitor switch, which would need to be bypassed.
Did either car have an alarm or immobilizer?
